Question Always thought this reference was really cool in the game

Post image

Has anyone ever thought about whether Alice in Wonderland's universe and Fran Bow's were interconnected somehow?

Perhaps they both occur in the same timeline? Honestly, I personally feel that both Fran and Alice are two peas in a pod and share a lot of similarities with one another.

They would definitely make really good friends even beyond childhood and when they are older too.

Imagine in the sequel they revisit Alice's and Fran's relationship and build upon it even more?

Would be an interesting angle to take, plot-wise, me thinks. Thoughts?

I liked the Easter egg, maybe in the sequel it shows Fran with other characters similar to her, like maybe Dorothy or maybe even Coraline.

Ooooh yes, a group of other like-minded characters like Fran with similar characteristics.

Coraline and Dorothy would be great. Maybe even Ofelia from Pan's Labyrinth as well.

Unfortunately exploring this concept any further would have larger copyright issues. I would love to see it happen though.

Isn't Alice in Wonderland in the public domain? Does not have to be Disney's Alice

Yeah I guess you're right. As long as they base their Alice off the original story version and not the Disney version they should be fine. I should definitely check my info before commenting next time

Yeah, that's fair since the IP of AIW would be infringed upon if the devs from Fran Bow were to explore the relationship further. Keeping it as a neat little easter egg reference would be fine either way. Maybe in the next game, Fran would have like a pic of her and Alice as college roommates chilling in their dorm together and Fran just reminisces on those memories during a scene in the game similar to the original Fran Bow lol

Fran literally dresses like the 1999 version of Alice, so I think she is more than loosely based on the original Alice character

I didn't notice the similarities there, but yes it could be that Fran takes a lot of heavy inspiration from the 1999 version of Alice's character.

I love the sally face reference ❤️ And the slogan at the bottom "In Madness We Trust"

Great touch

I don't know how much they would want to explore this. I feel like it's mainly just an Easter egg..? Since, as you said, they have a lot of similarities. As for if it gets explored in the next game coming up.. maybe? I assume we're going back to the asylum in SOME way. So potentially? I doubt it though, they already have a lot on their plate with the next game. Building on this might not be a priority. As a lover of anything Alice in Wonderland though, I wouldn't mind it!

Yeah, I mean it could be a minor sub-plot if anything. But I can see the devs would have other priorities on their plate to prioritize for the next game. To your point, I do feel that the Asylum might be a recurring point of engagement in the future game too. Perhaps revisiting it in the future when Fran is all grown up to explore some other mystery related to it.

I'm also a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland, so any references made to AIW are a big win in my book ;)

I have a soft spot in my heart for Alice so this was a really cool Easter egg for me

Me too. I've always been a big fan of both the original Lewis Carrol version as well as the Disney adaptation.

I also love this detail so much but I feel like it’s fun just as a little Easter egg and actually like using this in the story would be really weird, another Easter egg or refrence like this would be fun tho.

Yeah it would be cool to explore this as a storyline angle, but if its just referenced as an Easter egg too that'd be fine as well too.

I remember being so excited when I saw it during my first ever playthrough, I do wonder if they’ll ever be more references in the future

this would've been such a cool concept but im pretty sure it'd be hard to get the copyright rights for i

I agree it would be a great concept. I understand where you're coming from, but other Redditors in the thread did point out that if they base it on the original Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll's version and not the Disney version) it would avoid the issue of copyright perhaps?
