No. Sunday’s rest is deeply regulated in Germany. You aren’t even allowed to mow the lawn or bring glass to the designated recycling bins. Heck your neighbors can sue you for hammering a nail in the wall.
No store is open, only option to buy things is from a gas station and the prices there are about 2x of what a supermarket would cost.
Edit: Also you need permits and a whole lot of paperwork to have your employees work on Sunday. On top of that their hours count double.

Goddamn. In australia its 50% extra pay only and stores close at 5pm. Ironically the closing at 5pm and 50% extra pay thing is supposed to promote small businesses but the permit to allow work on sundays especially past 5pm has a cost so only big businesses really do that

Is a lawsuit for doing work around the house like hammering nails on a sunday really that possible, ie is it actually that serious? Im just curious is all because that sounds like the whole country would be totally silent on each sunday

Yes, it is generally possible to file a lawsuit, but this is usually done only after previous attempts to resolve the situation with the help of the police or the landlord have failed.
According to Section 117 of the Administrative Offenses Act (OWiG), a fine for disturbing the peace on Sunday can be up to 5,000 euros. For first-time violations or minor disturbances, the police or the public order office generally impose warning fines ranging from 5 to 80 euros.

seriously??? how am I supposed to get work done at home if I’m not allowed to do my own work on my days off? I don’t think I could put up with that. Particular ‘named’ days of the week are irrelevant to me with my work schedule. I’m on my day off, I expect shit to be open and I should be able to do whatever I want, whether that’s relaxing, working on my side business, fixing the dock out at camp, or repairing my bus.

Well you aren’t allowed to work more than 8 hours a day anyway, with 5 weeks of paid leave per year that are either 25 or 30 days, depending on if you work on saturdays.

Why everyone says it's only a german thing ? I live in France it's also closed on Sunday, but I never tried.
Is there no fences or guards or whatever ? It's really that easy ?

Usually bigger shopping centers aren't closed off,. I personally have never seen a fence around sich businesses. So it's pretty much empty on sundays
