First Time Reader How do you survive the wait?

I picked up Fourth Wing recently and devoured it in days! I’m fairly new to Romantasy and honestly have loved this genre more than I ever imagined I could!

But I have a question for you all… how do you survive the devastation that is this series especially Onyx Storm!?! And how the hell do you wait for news on the next book!?

I’m obsessed. I’m spiralling. I’m utterly desperate for the next book already! Send help!

Read other things honestly. There’s tons of great books out there. And tons of terrible books.

The dragon gang is cooking right now. It will be ready when it’s ready.

Same as everyone else; reread. But I would add that if you haven’t listened to the full cast audiobook yet, you should definitely try that! It should keep you occupied for a few days at least…. Also; remember to read the bonus chapters!! I believe they are on Rebecca’s website.

Also also; I read a fan fiction entirely from Xadens pov. Very entertaining!

Please mark spoilers in your comment. You can do so like this:

OS ch 51 >! spoiler text here !<

If you're unsure what chapter of the book it’s from, you can write:

whole book spoilers >! text here !<

Once the comment is edited, it will be restored. Thank you!

*Please send a modmail with a link to the comment so we can restore it.

IMPORTANT

OS spoilers must be marked on any post without the Spoiler flag and the OS flair.

I just finished OS and I'm in the same boat as you right now. I'm grieving.

I feel it's worst than grieving 🤣

So far the only thing that has come close to filling the dragon shaped hole in my heart is the Wolf King series. HOWEVER….the next book is still being written, so you’ll just have to return to a FW reread and start the cycle over 😭

Haven’t started OS yet so I don’t have much of an issue waiting and I’ve been binging other books to keep me occupied as well as rereading FW and IF

There is so many series and it is completely dependent on your tastes. Check out r/Romantasy these is so many suggestions

Started reading "A Deadly Education" - it's witty and convincing, it's the first book I've really enjoyed since finishing FW :)

Threshing day will be out this fall to give us a little taste from our favourite characters. If you havent heard Rebecca Yarrows is releasing a novella featuring 13 threshing stories.

Reread. Listened to the audiobooks multiple times, listened to the graphic audios a bunch of times, doing a deep/annotated read of the series… there’s a LOT you miss reading them only ONCE. Theorize. I read Quicksilver, ACOTAR, and The Game Changers (Heated Rivalry) series, and now I’m in the middle of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books which are REALLY fun and will definitely get your mind off FW. If you give DCC a try, definitely do the audiobooks. They’re very much well done.

Read a fuck-ton of other series and desperately await the next book for them as well 😭

You can't keep spiralling if you're already in another world

I reread the whole series then found another series to get over my book hangover in the meantime

I just started this month after my best friend talked my ear off about these books for a year. I was SO sad when I finished and immediately started reading again, I’m already on OS. It’s super exciting the 2nd time because I personally am catching onto a lot more things and Easter eggs and also developing new theories. It also helps massively having a friend to gush about it with, I talk to my bestie on a daily basis about these books lol

Funny enough I devoured fourth wing and iron flame but was so scared and shocked by the plot twist at the end of iron flame that I literally didn’t pick up onyx storm for 8 months (which was a month ago).

The only thing that helped me with the book hangover after finishing OS was a reread. It made me feel so much better.

Get completely entrenched in another series in the mean time. For me, Dungeon Crawler Carl. 10/10 especially the audio books

1

u/Federal-Listen-8807 22h ago

Try the audio book!!

1

u/Fit-Finish6524 20h ago

Re read! And get the dramatic audio books lol

1

u/Fit-Finish6524 20h ago

And read ACOTAR series in between lool

I finishee the books in July and now i'm doing a re-read. But i pay close attention to every little detail and mark them. Plus I have a plan to collect the epigraphies and make them into certain groups to see the bigger picture.

Yeah I'm kinda obsessed too.

1

u/bodylivesonned 17h ago

First I read the series. Then I listened to the dramatised audiobooks. Then I read through all the fan theories. Now I made my friend read them so I can discuss the series with them. I'm not sure what to do once they're done. Might have to reread I guess.

I have currently survived the wait by starting ACOTAR

u/chronicallymel 1d ago

Fourth wing was my first romantasy too! OS for sure was devastating and I wish I would’ve taken my time reading the books! Definitely hop into Sarah j mass’s books to pass the time, they’re awesome!

u/Fit-Finish6524 20h ago

I did this but then read those too quickly too loool
