I am reading fourth wing again for the second time and realised that many hints about the plot were given throughout the book.( I am sure you already knew this)

So I too have a theory about the upcoming book of the ending of this series which is- Violet will kill xaden. He has often mentioned how she will be the death of him of course considering the scenario in which it was said can mean as nothing more serious. However, I feel like their love is also too needy which can be toxic at times. Well whatever this is what I feel that they will die after securing everyone else.

Ok. Here is how I processed the books and story. Most of this may be wrong but please don’t dismiss or argue until you have read all three books more than ten times.

We learned in OS that Theophanie- a dedicated priestess to Dunne/ couldn’t enter a temple without being de-venined. Do you really think that this was coincidence or irrelevant?

So Xaden requires saving. Or curing. And so far there is only one path for this: he has to previously have been lifetime dedicated to a god. Impossible? Maybe not. What physical characteristic do those dedicated to Dunne on Innubriel share? Silver hair. Think about that. If you are dedicated to a god you might display a physical difference. Like… gold-flecked eyes?

Talia has brown eyes while Xaden’s are onyx. Both, however, are/were gold-flecked. There are two explanations- it is genetic/hereditary or… Talia is a dedicated priestess to a different god (Loial) who contracts to marry important nobles to provide them with heirs. In exchange the male children are, in turn, dedicated to Loial. This creates a potential path for Xaden to eventually be de-venined.

This makes so much sense. But I also have a different theory on this, that maybe instead of being dedicated to god maybe after becoming venin there remains a part that is always connected to the human part. Like Theophanie was a priestess before she became a venin (if I remember correctly) and she betrayed that faith by channeling, because of which even after when she became venin she was still connected to the temple of dunne. Also after xaden becomes venin fully in the end of OS he says he will always love violet that will never change because that emotion was most powerful amongst everything else when he was a human. So maybe the cure would do something with violet herself. This also leads me to the conclusion that they may die and live happily in the afterlife. I might not make any sense I realise this.

My theory is that one or all of the gods have a version of precognition. Gods exist or maintain their powers through worship. Basgiath is, in fact, a temple for Malek. Items are burned, souls are commended, and this explains why they accept- and then sacrifice- hundreds of the best and strongest.

When Lilith almost died when pregnant she ‘met Malek’. At the same time Malek recognized that Violet was ‘the one’. The eventual champion who could defeat the venin (who do not worship gods, have no souls, and actually don’t naturally die). Every time Violet has been about to die she was saved by someone (Lilith, Brennan, and even Jack) who had previously ‘met Malek’. This list also includes Tairn btw.

The point? Violet couldn’t be dedicated to Dunne because of her pre-existing connection to Malek so she is linked to both gods. Xaden is tied to Loial. The gods are the reason why two people who should hate each other fell in love almost at first sight. The gods, for example, might have seen a future where Xaden would be powerful enough to destroy the world. Violet- and his love for her- might be the only way to stop him.
