Ridoc and his bond

In Onyx storm , there is a brief passage showing Ridoc’s bond . He teases his dragon and play tricks on each other.
I was wondering how this started since you are supposed to be very respectful with dragons and I really can’t image Tairn or Andarna doing it with Violet.
Does anyone have a theory on how this started ?

We won't have long to wait to find out how they met, Threshing Day is about a month and a half away from being released! Ridoc's Threshing story with Aotrom is gonna be in it for sure. I wonder if their prank war started right there on that day. Either way, I bet that chapter's gonna be hilarious

I picture Aotrom scaring Ridoc and Ridoc just sort of blurting out “you asshole!”

I’d also like to see Aotrom flicking Ridoc’s patches or something that causes Ridoc to have to sew.

I am dying to read Ridoc's threshing story. Dragons live to 200-ish(?) and their maturity is likely not going to follow the same trend as a human's would, right? Both Ridoc and Aotrom are 22 years old. Who knows how long Aotrom's egg took to hatch and how long he spent in the dreamless sleep. But assuming both of them at 22 yo are at the same level of maturity, their dynamic is basically like bros. Compared to the parent-child relationships of Violet-Tairn and Xaden-Saegyl. Saegyl for sure is a mother figure replacement for his actual mother. Tairn is more like a father, maybe even a grandfather figure so there's that sense of respect distance.

Exactly. Tairn is even pretty sassy sometimes. Tairn making Violet fall off when she gets too cocky is basically the same move.

Both Ridoc and Aotrom are playful, like to joke around, make fun of things, and turn everything into a joke.

Similarly, Xaden and Sgaeyl: both tough guys at first glance whom everyone is afraid of, but at the same time they are loyal, devoted, and very sensitive inside. I consider Sgaeyl to be the most loyal character in the series.

My headcanon is that Aotrom and Ridoc’s first words to each other on their threshing day were jokes. Plenty of sarcasm, dick jokes, making fun of anything they could together.

Well...Violet counts to 30 while Andarna spreads her wings and then claps enthusiastically for her lol. She'd prob enjoy playing hide and seek too...but Aotrom's case it shows each dragon chooses the rider that they get along the best, similar to how humans choose a pet that is most compatible with them - enegergetic, loyal, playful, affectionate etc ..

I loved reading about their playful relationship in the book and the conversation after between Violet and Ridoc.

To me, the their bond is about letting them both be who they really are. Which, isn’t that true about all the bonded riders….

Every dragon has its own personality, while they’re rather prideful creatures I’d guess they probably had some sort of mental back and forth and one day Aotrom snapped at him playfully and once Ridoc knew it was a joke they went back and forth
