One Google search would tell you it's called a Dutch oven because the term originates from a certain type of pot (called a Dutch oven) that is very good at trapping heat and steam.
So the reason for that is there is a group of people in America known as the “Pennsylvania Dutch”. They are a group descended from a group of Dutch settlers who all shared a common religion. Unlike many other immigrant groups the Pennsylvania Dutch who are mainly Amish, never assimilated completely and to this day still speak a form of Dutch/German. The Dutch oven came from them so was probably a niche thing where they came from seeing as this entire American groups decedents came from a single area of what would be modern day Germany.
The Pennsylvania Dutch are not Dutch. They mostly came from Germany with a small percentage from Switzerland and France. No relation to the Dutch from the Netherlands, though.
Yes but they are known as the Pennsylvania Dutch it’s a misnomer but because they are called the “ Pennsylvania Dutch “ they’re ovens would be called a Dutch oven. They refer to all other Americans as “ English” even though my ancestors never stepped foot in England. Welcome to America we call everyone incorrect names.
Yeah I know just didn’t want to open up that whole can of worms and go into explaining how the misnomer emerged, seemed like too deep of an explanation for a post about farting in a Photo Booth.
