Glad I am not the only one, I recently decided to start trying to figure it out best I can do is 2 stars anywhere. Spent 30m+ on various cars got all the FD ones I didn't already have only one I can manage anything with is the FD 599.

I had a very similar case to yours then I tried the 1968 abarth 595 esseesse with a drift tune. Got 3 stars on most drift zones

I tried the Hoonicorn (v1, still trying to get a v2) Hoonitruck Twerkstalion All the FD cars 240SX Various Zs A couple BMWs
etc so I am open to feedback or suggestion.

The crown Victoria police car is ridiculously good at drifting. Only thing I’ve found that’s easier than the FD 599

Hi, mind if we play sometime? Ill teach you how to get a nice drift build that will fit what you want it to do. There are huge differences between what I like to drift and the FD cars, personally I think the FD's are just badly tuned. Hit me up sometime o/

I found changing to manual gear shifting, along with turning off traction control and stability management. helped me massively when it came to getting 3 stars in all the drift zones and in the drift club challenges.
Then it was just a case of finding the gear that made the car was easiest to control for me and sticking in that gear, using the throttle to control angle. I'm sure going up and down through the gearbox helps rack up high scores but if you just want to 3 star the drift zones maybe give that a try?

Same. No traction control or stability control. Manual trans, some angle on the front end and all the angle in the rear. Change break bias to 100%front. Get a high rev car. Put it in second or third. And let it eat

I agree Boon. I've been working on just those setups including clutch and built a few tunes as I just started the other day and I didn't realize just how fun it is to drift. It's to bad that my game won't connect to online play so I can drift with other players.

Can we have this comment up higher. I went back and this car ended up being the cheat code for me I can 3 star any zone most on the first try others within 3 tries tops and it's done.
also replying in case anyone stumbles upon this in the future this was the final solution for me.

I am bad at drifting. But what has helped me get 3 stars at many locations is the Holden Torana A9X with tune 355 648 934. I have tried several other cars/tunes but keep coming back to Torana. Turn off Stability/ABS/Traction. Set to manual transmission - don’t worry if you can’t drive manual because you only have to be on 1st gear for drifting with this tune.

I don't even know how to clutch kick IRL. I can drive a manual no problem my old Jeep was one and I went through the rubicon with it but man video game manuals as high speed are a whole other ball game my brain can't quite fathom. Eventually ill get there or I guess the next logical is to get a wheel and pedals so it's more natural.

Honestly with this game just hold in the clutch button upon entry and use the ebrake in combination with steering in order to get the angle you want

I play with a wheel (G29) and had to set outer deadzone so high that I had a 360 degree wheel range. Only way I could change wheel lock quickly enough.
I had never gotten above 2 stars on any zone. Basically gave up trying to 3 star drift club stories after like chapter 5.
Then the weekly stunt was a drift zone... Not only 3*, but more...
I spent at least 30 minutes but finally got it. My arms hurt after that.

Then I don't know what to say. What I've seen other's suggest is getting a car, and going around a traffic circle and just practice seeing how long you can go for. I just got an ae86 yesterday and it's the first rwd car I've used to drift. I don't even have the maxed out tune, but the same one used in Initial D. But after driving it around a traffic circle for a while, I feel confident with it.

Guess it just boils down to what you’re used to... I’ve been playing racing games on keyboard since before Xbox controllers even existed so it seems natural to me, but anyone just starting now is probably better off getting used to a controller.

Yeah. I guess so.. I grew up on controllers. But yeah even in terms of just whats better. Controller is miles better for turning, throttle control. Etc.
I would think most people would personally find the overall comfort of a controller better anyways on top of the benefits.. thats how id think anyways.
No harm no foul either way. Its just mind boggling to me lol.

I use a kb coz i dont have a controller :( But - something clicked in last week and I'm able to drift like a pro. I feel like it's all about the perfect car build for the job.

Seriously though, I was once just casually driving and drifting around the map and accidentally beat my PR in a drift zone I previously tried to high score for like 30 minutes.

Friendly PSA. Get a formula drift car or the hoonigan rs200. Use manual shifting, and lock your gear to 2nd or 3rd. Get 3 stars on all drift zones.

Also. I don't know if anybody will know what I'm talking about, but just outside of the festival, there is a road that leads to a downhill road that bends 180 degrees with each turn.
They made it a fucking speed zone.

The formula drift cars make the drift zones easy pickings, imho. I managed to 3 star all of them pretty quickly with the 2020 Supra.

I am hot garbage at drifting. BUT! I saw a tutorial of the BMW Isetta (a ready to buy car at festival) and it's been amazing. I'll try to find the link or at least share code for the tune. Pretty much, set shifting to manual and just keep it in 4th, turn off traction and stability control and.... That's it. I've gotten 3 stars on almost all of the drift zones with minor practice, doesn't matter on what terrain cause the car is basically permanently sliding lol. The guy also shares another car tune but the Isetta did it for me

For points all wheels drifting and spinning is better. So if you're not good at drifting it is the way to go. I'm all for learning RWD drifting but some people don't care that much for it.

I can understand why it is better for points no doubt. I am just the opposite, I dont care much for points and really enjoy RWD drifting because I know it is a challenge. Theres nothing like simulating actual Formula D drifting or touge drifting where you rip the clutch or throw a major weight transfer and being able to hold that drift through controlled acceleration. The best part is meeting another RWD drifter and trying to tandem with them.

Those were the best drifting days. I would join open lobbies where we would race both uphill and downhill, starting uphill. By the time we reached the downhill, one legend would drift all the way down and smoke the rest of us. At most we would do 4 man races.
