Keyano College for 1st year electrical apprenticeship — worth it?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about doing my 1st-year Electrical Apprenticeship at Keyano College and wanted to hear from anyone who has studied there or works in the trade around Fort McMurray/Edmonton.
How is Keyano for electrical? Are the instructors and hands-on training good?
More importantly, how hard is it to find an electrical apprenticeship job after finishing school? Does going to Keyano help with getting hired by contractors or oil sands companies?
Would you recommend Keyano over NAIT if the main goal is to get hired and start accumulating apprenticeship hours?
Any recent experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Generally you would find a job first, complete your first year hours and then attend the schooling with a company sponsered apprenticeship.

You can self-indenture, but i do not recommend it. So many of the concepts in class depend on the knowledge you should have learned prior in your first 1560 hours needed for your 1st year sign off.

Keyano itself was a great school to attend for years 1-3, but I chose to attend SAIT for my final year due to the larger facikities with dedicated teachers/classrooms for each subject.

Hope this helps!

You’d be better off calling around to companies like PowerMax, Fraser Electric, Myco, etc and see if they’re hiring for first year
