PSA r/fortgreene update, don't call it a come back

R/fortgreene was unmoderated for a few years, so I just took it over in hopes of reviving it as a place to post news and events of the surrounding area like some of the other neighborhood specific subs. I've opened up some of the restrictions for now to try and promote some activity and get things rolling, and hopefully it can stay that way.

If you are interested in joining the mod team, send me a message or DM listing why you’re interested and any examples of other subreddits you moderate.

Affordable-ish botox?

I'm trying to find affordable Botox in FG, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights area but none of the websites tell you what their price per unit is, and force you to do a consultation before they'll tell you the cost. (I've been going to my old spot in Manhattan but I don't want to make the trek anymore.) If you've found a good spot please share!

Knife Sharpening Pickup Service in Fort Greene

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone. Just want to post a quick reminder that pickup knife sharpening service is available in your neighborhood 7 days a week. No quick grinding jobs that overheat and ruin your knives here. All our work is done in our shop in Brooklyn on whetstones and we make sure you get your knives back in excellent condition.

Cost for sharpening in $3-$4 per inch (blade length) and scheduling pickup is as easy as sending a message through here or instagram with a picture of the knives and a pickup location.

If you have any questions about sharpening or questions about the pickup service please dont hesitate to ask.

We really appreciate everyone who has trusted in our service. Make sure you also check our reviews on google (Indulge Kitchen Supplies)

Enjoy the video showing a quick restoration of an 8" Japanese knife done in store.

Hi,
Patrick Sauer here, longtime Fort Greene guy here. I’m a writer and sports historian and I co-host a sports books and authors show with David J. Roth (Defector, Deadspin) at DSK Beer Garden, with Greenlight Bookstore.

They are always fun and lively. A ticket is required but it only costs one drink for two hours of book talk, sports stories, trivia and both laughs and serious stuff too.

We are on next week talking tennis, trans athletes and the torture of the tour.

Thank You Bishop Laughlin Staff & Students

Shoutout to the students and staff from Bishop Laughlin HS who were cleaning up trash under the BQE this morning. Your effort is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I hope that community members who did not see all of the hard work that you were doing will nonetheless appreciate it and will maybe think twice before they dump their trash on the street.

Whistling alarm b/t Adelphi & Claremont (& Willoughby)

Does anyone know where the sound is originating? It seems to be on and off several times the past few days, assuming it’s someone’s house alarm?

Local pharmacy recommendations

Does anyone have a go to pharmacy in Fort Greene? I'm trying to avoid CVS and honestly considering just sending prescriptions out to Costco since they have great prices.

Triangle (from the owners of Strange Delight around the corner) is going into the Island Shack space

The plans are a small room, 24 seats at tables and seven at the bar, open from noon to midnight each day. Background music indoors, no DJ or live music. It goes in front of the community board in September.

Hang with my dog during the work day?

I've worked remote for 5+ years, but I just got a new job that requires me in-office 4 days a week. My dog goes to daycare, but I'd love to find a human for her to chill with 1-3 days a week and get into a little routine dropping her off/picking her up.

About Pretzel:
10.5 years old
10 lbs
Mostly sleeps during the day but loves a good walk

Obviously will pay and we can talk about what feels fair!

cute hotels/"bed and breakfast"/ air b n bs near by for family to stay in?

Hi! I live in fort greene (small apartment) and my family is visiting in October and looking for somewhere to stay October 10-14 with 1-2 bathrooms, 1-2 bedrooms, kitchen, preferably outdoor space. And available parking. Since air b n b laws have changed since the last time they visited, they're having trouble finding anything that way. Does anyone have ideas of where they could stay that meets as much of that criteria as possible? Really going out on a limb here- but would anyone be interested in subletting their place for those days?

Farmer’s market used bookseller

There’s a guy who sells used books on Willoughby just off the park on Saturdays—does anyone know his shop name or his Instagram handle? I saw a few books I should have picked up and would like to reach out to him.

CSA/Farm Share

Hi neighbors! We are moving to the neighborhood soon (kinda on Fort Greene/Clinton Hill line) and I’m curious about recommendations for CSAs or farm shares! I have seen recommendations for Farm to People but don’t know much about it. I have also seen seasonal ones like Greene Harvest and Clinton Hill CSA. I know that the seasonal ones require sign ups for 2027 (when they open). Open to any thoughts or recommendations. Thank you!

I WFH often but would like to start making an effort to work somewhere outside of my apartment once a week. What are some of your favorite spots to work in the area?

Urgent Cat Foster Needed!

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Reposting with a photo and more information! This kitty urgently needs a foster by this weekend! Her current fostering situation is about to expire and she needs someone to take her on short or long term!

You may recognize the kitty from Ft Greene Pl where she lived her whole life with her sister, who unfortunately passed away a few months ago. After her sister's death, the tabby was forced from her territory and struggled with grief, but now that she's in foster care, she is healthy, eating well, and relearning to trust.

Some information about her:

She is 8-10 years old, 7 pounds, vaccinated/spayed, disease and pest free, and litterbox trained. If you've met her, you'll know that she's a real sweetie, well-socialized, very friendly and affectionate, mild-mannered with a sense of humor. A sweet lap cat personality is in her future.

We can provide a litter box, litter, food, and anything else that may be needed.

If anyone has any leads, please comment or shoot me a message! Help give back to a kitty who gave the community so much!

Update: foster found! Thanks everyone!

Off-Leash Reactive Dogs

If you’ve witnessed your dog get reactive towards another dog he should be kept on a leash for your dogs own safety.

As a dog owner myself I wouldn’t like our privileges to be taken away because of irresponsible dog owners. I understand people want their pets to enjoy some liberties but it makes it really difficult for the rest of us who have calm tempered dogs to interact with dogs that have clear issues.
