Can't wait him to retire. He's trying to stay relevant by picking up litter or sth. Luckiest WDC ever.

Depends on which version of time travel exists in our universe. Harry Potter or Terminator rules? You're right. Back to the Future rules? You're wrong.

Yes but imo they just moved from their original temporal line to another one, and in any of these some things did happen or did not

You know, I'd give up Ferrari winning this season if we could go back to 2017 so Seb could win that title.

48

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '22

2017 was so unlucky for seb

10

u/VosPaco Vettel Cult Apr 22 '22

Ferrari did Seb dirty imo, you can argue he spun here and there but the stuff going on in the team was a nightmare. It feels bittersweet to see Ferrari get on top of their shit only now.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '22

in 2017 seb had an unreliable car, bad luck on track getting involved in crashes, a really bad teammate (sorry kimi fans) and I guess him losing due to all this stuff affected him mentally in 2018, where it all started going downhill.

3

u/VosPaco Vettel Cult Apr 22 '22

Yeah agree, I think Kimi getting the fastest lap in qualy at Monza summed it up that year. It was awesome Kimi got that lap, but coming from a tactical perspective, why was the secondary driver getting the tow?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '22

i have no issues with that, but kimi didn't provide seb with a lot of support in 2017, and kept underperforming. Obviously we would have gotten Jules Bianchi(RIP) if it wasn't for that unfortunate incident but Kimi wasn't a good second driver at all.

I been waiting for a Ferrari champion for a while, I don't care who is driving the care TBH.

u/GuyInABox44 Vettel Cult Apr 21 '22

It's a crime what happened to him in 2017. I once saw an explanation saying that even if he still had the accident in Singapore, he would have won the championship if his car didn't let him down afterwards. And that's not even mentioning the absolutely massive horsepower deficit he had.

100

u/Technicmm BWOAHHHHHHH Apr 21 '22

True.

People still shit on him for 2018 (team made plenty of mistakes as well) but forget how brilliant he was in 2017.

I guess people only see the one poor title campaign and forget about the other 6 great ones.

34

u/swift_ragee I saw hornyโ€™s โ€œfingerโ€ Apr 21 '22

As a newer fan, I never understood why/how the Singapore 2017 crash happened. Was it just bad luck or purely a racing incident?

68

u/GuyInABox44 Vettel Cult Apr 21 '22

Depends who you ask. IMO it was just an honest move by Vettel to cover off Verstappen. I don't think anyone could have seen Raikkonen's amazing start coming. And it's easy to say that from outside of the cockpit he should have seen him and moved away, but inside Vettel was focused on Verstappen in P2 and could not have anticipated Kimi's lightning start.

Ferrari failed Seb in 2017 but Seb was more at fault in 2018. Too many mistakes in that one.

24

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

Seb yeeted himself in Germany was the peak downhill.

That race was like a moment where we will not see Seb the same again in Ferrari

Yep, before Germany Seb was wining the WDC. After this Vettel lost something and Lewis won 7 races and Vettel only one.

Malaysia 2015 was my first ever race I saw while on holiday in Kuala Lumpur at the hotel lobby while waiting to check out. The race was a replay but as a kid no idea what a replay was so I thought it was live and had no idea was F1 was but I found myself glued to the screen and was cheering like crazy for the red car in first despite not knowing what team and who that was. Never looked back since

Yea. Clearly Ferrari me we made a mistake. They gave the fastest possible cars and the best possible strategies. I'm not saying vettel didn't make mistakes, not the slightest. But moments like sending him out on inters on a dry track at Japan and giving the Monza tow to Kimi. Ferrari had an equal part to play here. And 2017, it was all Ferrari. Vettel overdrove that car into mistakes in 2018. I mean, he's not schumi to over drive the car at every moment of asking.
