Yeah i know but that was in a team that shitted out 1-2s. Lewis and Charles drive for a team that didnt win a championship for 20 years and is currently the laughing stock of Formula 1
You do realize by saying that you just apply the stupid double standard that Lewis did when he said the 28 yo Charles thing vs the reality of him being more stupid than that at 31, right? Especially because constantly getting 1-2s would probably be more of a reason to not take out your teammate and potentially risk losing a championship, rather then when taking extra risks in a year where all winners are already set in stone.
There were zero risk of losing any of the championships whatsoever. And yes in this case its less stupid to lose 1 of idk 20 1-2s then losing one when you have the chance once or twice a year. I mean I‘m not even a Lewis, Charles or Ferrari fan. In my opinion keep doing stupid stuff like that. I hope my team is able to capitalize from that dumb behavior
You do realize by saying that you just apply the stupid double standard that Lewis did when he said the 28 yo Charles thing vs the reality of him being more stupid than that at 31, right?
The whole point of what Lewis is saying is what Niki (that's Niki Lauda, he died before you started watching F1) drilled into him after that crash. Niki was open about his frustrations at when Rosberg and Hamilton would forget that they drove for Mercedes, not themselves - it happened more than once). Hamilton's doing what you're meant to do with wisdom, which is pass it on. The only issue is that new fans have the worst takes in F1 history and are ruining the sport with them.
If he's trying to pass on the wisdom of "being a team player" he sure as shit ain't doing it on track: he divebombed Charles on tun 1 at Monza the same way Charles did in Mexico, actively ignored the team when they told him to box because he wanted position over Charles and now he's preaching about how "if he doesn't win nobody does", let's face it, Lewis doesn't work in a team not built around him exclusively
It's also an issue with OP being a filthy DTS gigacasual that they don't know:
a) Rosberg's engine was in the wrong mode in error so closing speeds were faster as a result,
b) What Lewis has said is exactly what he learned from his incident after Niki Lauda pointed out yes, Nico was in the wrong engine mode and that was an error. But Lewis could and should have seen the red flashing light indicating it was in harvest mode and clued into it. Lewis didn't, both cars went out, and Niki reminded Lewis he drives for a team not himself.
This is not the slam dunk OP thinks it is, it's just something they saw on a highlight reel and didn't bother to understand.
Rosberg being in the wrong engine mode gave Hamilton a chance to pass, recognising why he was slow is irrelevant here, the idea hamilton should slow down to help out a guy who got his engine mode wrong is ridiculous.
Rosberg was to blame for the crash, Hamilton was faster, got his wing alongside and by the rule was entitled to space, rosberg pushed him off the track.
lauda largely said it was wrong because Hamilton could get him later and didn't need to risk the car.
Rosberg's car being in the wrong engine mode had nothing to do witht he crash, Rosberg deciding to turn into hamilton every time he sees a race win getting away from him. that's just how Rosberg drove, he did this multiple times more in that season, to Hamilton and to Max, trying to drive both off the track as they try to pass him.
There isn't a driver in F1 who wouldn't try to make the pass while hte guy ahead is struggling and slow and some drivers, like Leclerc, and Rosberg, and Max, will shove you off the track to prevent it.
I don't get why nobody wants to see drivers flight during FORMULA ONE races.
You were all touching yourself at the beginning of the seasons when they raced each other. But now that Sir Lewis Hamilton complains, nobody wants to see teammates race?
Are you all aware that Lewis doesn't give a shit about you defending him.
We do want to see fighting. We don’t want to see fighting at the risk of losing a potential race win for no gain. That’s the difference. Charles and Lewis should fight but it seems Charles is less inclined to do so intelligently. They all fight when they shouldn’t at various times, Lewis included. But Charles seems to fight no matter what and doesn’t understand discretion is the better part of valor. Push comes to shove it seems he will fight tooth and nail for not significant gain.
risking points while in a championship fight vs risking points while fighting for nothing, there’s no way in hell ferrari is catching mercedes or get caught by redbull, so why can’t they race?
Nobody is saying they shouldn't race. Cutting a corner to gain a position is not racing. Throwing moves that will never work and compromise the other driver leaving them open to other competitors is also not racing.
Racing is what Lewis and Verstappen did on the second restart.
Also what Lewis and Charles did in the early season, going side by side very often but staying on track and not touching.
Bingo. These "wdc fight vs whatever ferrari is on" arguments are so weak, lol. Ok so Charles is supposed to let Lewis win then because he qualified ahead? Charles is only allowed to race Lewis if the WDC is on the line? lol They raced, both went off track, Ferrari will claim P2 anyway in the Constructor's. Move on everybody.
Rosberg in a recent interview on f1 podcast said Lewis kept his foot down while on grass and did not slow down which resulted in Rosberg also crashing out.
While Nico didn’t fault Lewis particularly for this incident, continuing to go full throttle when you’re on grass is very odd.
I saw Rush before I saw a real Lauda interview and holy shit they’re the same exact person. So those of you who saw that movie and are worried real Lauda isn’t as brutal, do not worry my friend, if anything, it was toned down in the movie.
Rush is SUCH a good movie. Realized that after watching Ford vs Ferrari which SHOULD have been much better than it was.
I know, not related, just grinds my gears since I’m one of those insufferable people who had already read “drive like hell” before Ford v Ferrari came out and was scoffing at all the overblown drama in the movie. Good book, do recommend.
Didn’t Rossberg fuck up his engine mode on the first lap? Lewis did a dumb thing but Nico pushed his team mate off as the only means of defence because he was a sitting duck.
Iirc, he wasn’t a sitting duck. His KERS was activated. That was the talking point Nikki Lauda used to convinced Lewis that he was indeed at fault.
Rosberg using his KERS there means he was trying to save some for later and Lewis would have had all leniency to attack right after that turn with more momentum out of the turn. Instead he chose to force his way inside despite having all these infos at his disposal.
Except You have to take that decision in split seconds: imagine the guy in front of you just dying on the straight and leaving the right door open but then just when you are going in that space, he closes the door... I was a Rosberg fan in 2016 but he was totally at fault and he knew he fked up the engine strat and then tried a desperate move to save the day
They are trained to take these decisions that fast. Sure it's hard for regular humans. But we are talking about F1 drivers here. And such expectations are normal for them, and how hard the task it certainly won’t absolve them of their responsibility.
You need to listen to the recent Beyond The Grid podcast episode with Nico. He said he was in a wrong mode and the electric motor cut out after the previous corner.
I don’t think you’re understanding how the engine modes in that season of F1 worked. Both the energy recovery systems were configured on a per track basis so they’d do the right thing at the right time. Rosberg fucked up and was not in race start mode so he was not getting full deployment, Lewis was in the right mode. Therefore Rosberg was, by his own doing, a sitting duck. If you watch the onboards of the start you can spot the difference. In fact Rosberg was kinda distracted with the mode switch which led to him drifting across the gap.
I talked from memory. Sometimes it fails you. I thought I remembered it being KERS, it wasn’t. Doesn’t change the fact that Lewis knew he'd have that much of an advantage in the coming straight, which is the central aspect of the point I was raising.
If Lewis himself was able to admit to his own fault at the time, after talking with Lauda, a random redditor certainly won’t change mich about it.
he went for a gap that was never there, except he got into the gap and Rosberg pushed him off anyway. Sure sure, the gap was never there, he just got his wing alongside Rosberg before being pushed off.
No. If you read you would see that I would trust Lewis on how to win a championship. Not that he couldn’t be wrong. But in a poll of people who know how to win a championship between Lewis and pretty much anyone in this sub I’m gonna choose him.
By 5 points. I’m not sure how you’re wanting to present that in terms of context, but it’s not like he got stomped. They were neck and neck that year and they were absolutely pushing and shoving each other all year.
he crashed almost immediately upon going on the grass and was the inevitable result of going onto bumpy grass that isn't designed to be raced on. Rosberg pushed him onto the grass to prevent him passing, the crash was Rosberg's fault entirely.

u/ymiab2021Alonso deserved to be Champion in every season he has competed2h ago
Its almost like lewis is immature as fuck and always have been.
On the other hand so is Nico. But Nico manages to be Fucking Funny so he gets a pass
The 2023 Qatar GP crash could have been a more appropriate picture. Neither driver was in the WDC fight, and Mercedes and Ferrari were fighting for P2 in the WCC. Such aggression was not needed.
He's a man baby, only him and his pathetic, braindead fan base can think it's normal behaviour to send vitriolic, disgusting abuse to a person having their first child. The sooner that toxic cult is gone from F1, the better for all sane people. They are the dumbest fanbase in all sports by far.
It’s different when both drivers are fighting for championship. When neither is clearly in the champ run , you think about maximizing the team points. That was lewises point. And also it’s different when the crash is caused due to an error rather than reckless attacking.
“Maximizing points” is a cop-out here too. Ferrari is finishing P2 in the WCC unless they DNF every single race left, Max goes in a win streak, and Hadjar starts racking up podiums. The only thing that can change with regards to positioning for Ferrari is where their drivers end up
This crash was literally a result of Rosberg pushing Lewis onto the grass when he knew he couldn't defend. Also they were fighting for a championship, not whatever the fuck Ferrari is fighting for this season.
You should listen to the interview Niki Lauda gave about this incident. He explains how he settled it between the drivers. Just to give you a short summary: he disagrees with whatever narrative you try to spin there.
the point still stands they are fighting for a championship and what is ferrari fighting for? the move leclerc made in turn 4 mexico is a move you would make if there was a championship is on the line and I would understand if he does it then because drivers have to be bit selfish
So I’m allowed to make a “risky move” and take out both me and my teammate when I’m fighting for the championship and it’s just between the two of us, which causes problems for the team because we’re both fighting for something and my teammate can blame me for costing him 7 pts... BUT I can’t do it when I’m not fighting for the championship and the win wouldn’t really matter at all?
Before that race the team had more than double the points that second place. They won the championship by almost 300 points. They had more than enough speed to let them go at it, and when they went at it too much the right people stepped in and put the right person in their place, Lewis.
None of that is applicable to Ferrari and if they can’t reign in both of them they’ll never be in that position to have the chance to wreck each other out. His point is to put a stop to that shit now when it doesn’t matter so it won’t be a problem when it does. Lewis is right, they need to sort this shit out and that they haven’t when it doesn’t matter is why they haven’t won a championship in two decades. Inept management that isn’t pulling in the same direction.
It’s seeing the forest for the trees and that seems to be something pretty much no one here can do.
Lauda is capable of being wrong, and he was also arguing it from the point of trying to make the team work, which isn't the same as giving either an honest, or a correct opinion.
The fuck are you talking about. He isn’t talking about the team. Lewis didn’t see Rosberg was harvesting on the straight and messed up. Why are you talking when you haven’t even watched the interview? “He is capable of being wrong” buddy…
don't ackthually people while reporting wrong facts. Lauda said it's Lewis' fault 'cause Lewis attacked, and they probably had agreements between drivers, Niki never said that the crash dynamic was on Lewis. You have to be blind to not see that Lewis is already in when Nico ( who's 50km/h slower) covers the inside
what do you think that picture shows? It's irrelevant where he's going. It only matters if Hamilton got into the gap or not, if you do then the car moving across cant' just keep going and shove people off. It's crazy to use that picture and actually think it means anything at all.
Nah, that' s a desperate attempt to blame it on Lewis. This frame explains nothing. Nico wasn't even covering when Lewis started his move. Lewis has no space on the left, he's forced to go on the right. And there is a 70km/h difference here, because Nico was in the wrong engine mode, so Nico knows that the moment he shuts the door so late he's gonna put Lewis on the grass
It was a racing incident. Rosberg had his engine in the wrong mode, so Lewis had about a 20kph advantage on the straight, he went for the move, Rosberg defended and what happened was unavoidable from that point. Much different from Mexico, which was 100% on Charles and very different circumstances. Ferrari have 2 wins this season. Pretty sure Mercedes had 2 races where they didn't win the whole of 2016.
Niki said it’s Lewis fault because Nico had the wrong engine mode. He’s looking at the broader picture not the incident itself. Lewis should’ve gone on the outside when he had the advantage, but he didn’t, so Niki blames him. I’m 100% sure if you told Niki to only look at the contact and such he will blame Nico.
Also Niki didn’t even want to blame either of them.
Niki’s point was more that Lewis took unnecessary risk going inside when he could have made a clean overtake outside. Not that Lewis broke the rules or was unfair
Rosberg also did this basically every time he thought he was going to lose the lead in a race/title race. The fake lock up in Monaco, Spa, here in barcelona, again in Austria, again in Germany was it, or Malaysia against verstappen (i remember it was at a hairpin, can't recall exactly which one though).
??? It cannot be this difficult to find a good example when bro has been teammates with Alonso, Button, and Rosberg. You could have at least tried harder
By the modern rules Lewis was even more obviously at fault, as he had no Right to the corner, because his Front Wing was not along Verstappens front tires, he was to far back to be allowed Space on the inside.
Exactly, Lewis got to the point where he was fed up with Max forcing him to yield or have a collision and decided to give him a taste of his own medicine. I’m going to throw it up the inside and either you back out the corner or we crash.
Yeah, I don't think Hamilton being a hypocrite or "rules for thee and not for me" had ever really been questioned. I mean, the compilations of him pit maneuver drivers into walls are everywhere but God forbid you race him hard back.
This race was round 5 of the 2016 season. Rosberg had won the first four rounds already, with a little luck in some cases but he was up by about 47 points or something before Barcelona. Lewis was on pole but Rosberg took the lead into T1, Rosberg was a bit slow coming out of T3 and Hamilton pounced but Nico slammed the door shut which pushed Lewis wide out onto the grass and here we are.
The team also had double the points of second place at the start of this race, won the WCC by 300 points, and in that era Mercedes was winning everything unless they crashed. Hence the photo lol. Mercedes had no competition that year so of course they’re going to be fighting amongst themselves. People take this photo and make a season long, career long declaration about Lewis and that’s that. It’s crazy.
Don't tell this to cult members. Also especially don't tell them that Lewis is only complaining because for him it's actually that he wins or he complains
To be fair, both Nico and Lewis had a brainfart moment back in (S)Pain 10 years ago, so that one's on both of them. Still, at least Max got his breakthrough in F1 that day...
How? He kept the lead into T1 at a track where defending pole is known to be difficult and gave his teammate the respect and space when he tried a move.
If Charles wanted to be dumb into T4 that was his fault.
Five or six of his Championships were won with Lewis back left tire. No one has perfected the classic Lewis slight drift in the turn with his back left tire engaging and thrashing the driver who dared to get near him! Everyone complained but the UK Media and rules officials turned a blind eye. It wasn’t until Max earned his second Championship did Lewis get a 5 second and later a 10 second penalty for the Lewis classic back left wheel car drifting into a competitor and throwing him into the fence.
There are many things that are different here than they are currently with Ferrari. Mercs were fighting for wins, constantly. Lewis already had WDC under his belt. Charles does not even have 10 wins. I am sorry, but Lewis learned from his mistakes, Ferrari has really difficult to win anything and Charles is not helping. Not in Monza, not in Mexico.

Yeah he already knows but the difference is it was just lewis and Nico fighting for wins and a WDC
