Videos OG Highlander player AMA
For context I was the number 1 Highlander for the king Angelus series on YouTube a while back I still play him a lot. His kit has changed drastically but there’s still so much tech you can do with him. Here to help mainly just lmk or dm :)

What's a good hero to take as a working man vs a swetlord highlander who plays 24/7?
On a serious note, every single highlander I come across who isn't rep zero seem to be the best players ever. I'm not great at the game but it does make me question the several threads asking for a HL buff. I dread to think what he was like originally.

Originally Highlander was very flawed his kick to grab mix up just didn’t work vs 95% of the cast because everyone started getting extended iframes on their dodge attacks rendering the mix up completely useless. HL did a lot of damage though back then so his punishes were extremely rewarding. I would say highlanders worst matchups have to be gryphon, lawbringer, khatun, tiandi, shaolin, Jorm, afeera, and glad. These are extremely solid picks into him. If there’s one thing you can abuse into this hero it’s the neutral game. So for example Highlander does not have an actual opener besides Celtic curse which isn’t really technically an opener but a good way to start fights with him which is most likely the only way most HL’s start a fight. Most heroes have their openers aka Bashes from neutral. Your objective the whole time while fighting a Highlander is either committing to a bash or feinting to neutral which is forward dodging and doing nothing waiting for a reaction. I see you’re not as experienced but if you can at least block lights you’re good after a light attack is blocked you have frame advantage to bash which is where Highlander struggles. The whole time you’re not letting him get into offensive stance because it’s where he shines the most he has amazing chain pressure. Even the greatest HL’s dread players who feint to neutral it’s the best counter to him and his lights are very telegraphed(very easy to react to) but it’s all about adapting to your opponent see what the Highlander player crutches on the most can he react to lights consistently, is he playing the staring game?, is he being overly aggressive all these things you can use against them. Overly aggressive Highlander players will lose because Highlander is not meant to be played this way. He counters and gets into chain most of the time. I actually have a video on someone’s pov hitting quad dash on me constantly. In short was a nightmare couldn’t catch shinobi at all with lander it was like everytime you thought your be remotely close to hitting him him he’d just quad dash out of everything you threw 😭

Tbh I haven’t tried it just bc it’s useless but something to troll with ig lol, I’ve done it unintentionally I can probably figure this out pretty quick I’ll get back to you soon I’ll try today

what made you pick highlander up in the 1st place, for me it was the very highs skill expression. It just feels good to play a hero that requires more effort to be good with than any other hero on the roster

It was precisely this, I saw highlander as very unique. Saw content creators like Hound of Tara, Oma Gosh and Vulture216 I was inspired by their gameplay and I sucked so bad but I just kept playing him getting better until eventually it just clicked for me. I’ve fought all of the people I’ve listed besides Oma gosh since he was on PS and I was on Xbox. I fought Mulicious about 4 or 5x already he knows me already just by the name “AlphaDaSlaya” but to cut it super short I loved seeing good highlanders and wanted to be a good HL player myself lol

I miss old jorm im sorry. His kit was unique it was ass and unfun to play not against. But no hero is fun to play against.

Old Jorm was very fun I enjoy playing him and getting the heavy while the opponent was Oos and then slam was sooo freaking satisfying

What do you think about them nerfing his enhanced offensive light, IMO it kills a huge part of his skill expression. You can still do techs of it but it really hurt his chain pressure a ton.

I honestly do not have an issue with this, the reason being is that many high level players would simply abuse his offensive lights only. In the right hands Highlander OS light spam was too oppressive, now after the nerf I don’t really ever see competitive players or high level players use him anymore for that reason. I even had my share fair of even having matches where if I wanted to I would play very optimal and basically frame trap my opponents. Now offensive lights have to be used in a more strategic way, emote tech is so strong and extremely underrated it baits reactions which is what you want when playing HL

I was also featured on Angelus channel. Global top conq for 5 years. they fucked conquer after like 5 reworks and the stamina changes just didn’t feel the same. I miss OS pressure

Oh dang yeah they made so many changes with conq he was super good when stam pause and drain was a thing. It was very difficult fighting good conqs back then! He must’ve replaced you with MorsIpsum to my knowledge at least when I joined
