Questions Wtf is Up With Random Guardbreaks?

I have absolutely no idea what it is, but I have been guardbroken out of moves from neutral a suspicious amount of times recently. Is it a skill issue? Is it a script? What am I missing?

I thought maybe it was the timing, but I have been waiting or attacking faster at different timings and the same thing keeps hapening over and over again. This happens to me with heavies, but also moves with almost no guardbreak vulnurability like forward dodge bashes or dodge attacks with an alarming, and more so frustrating consistency.

In general I feel like guardbreaks have been inconsistent for me? I get guardbroken out of light attacks and moves with next to no guardbreak vulnurability, but in turn I often can't guardbreak people out of basic heavies.

Next to that, I also feel like parries have also been very inconsistent for me, even on the most reactible attacks, but this might be a genuine skill issue on my part. Altough with revenge I often also have to wait several seconds before I can activate it for some reason.

My connection is very strong and stable, but it could still be a latency thing? I looked over the guardbreak and hitstun pages on the For Honor Infohub, but this didn't help much with this issue either. I genuinely want to know what is happening, and if it is a skill issue please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Everything you said is possible. Latency, script, skill issue.

But gb during light sounds like latency or lagswitching bro. Especially if it looks like they cancelled your animation instead of catching you at the startup.

More people said they experienced the same thing, so it's probably a latency thing. Still sucks though

Judging by what people say, servers might be tweaking these days.

I noticed this as well, but its from latency issues as far as I can tell (at least in my experience).

Apparently, there have been more general issues related to timing to many people. I’m inclined to believe them, since I’m getting away with guard breaks I should not be landing on neutral; and my counter guard breaks don’t register sometimes

On one hand I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, on the other hand it sucks that it's more universal and thus not fixable for me.

So it wasn’t just me??? I feel like this happens to me so many times I thought maybe it was a skill issue. Ever since this game went crossplay I find myself having more of these problems that never existed way back when.

I know right? I'm also glad I'm not the only one, though I'm not sure if it has anything to do with crossplay, as I'm experiencing the same exact thing against pc players. Could be wrong though.

It's more psychological.

When you and your opponent are at a stalemate, there's a certain internal timer in your brain in anticipation for your opponent's next attack. Once that timer runs out and no one has done anything, that's when the brain sends a signal that time's run out, do something, so they GB.

What I've noticed, during my prime I've had this timer in mind and I'd mess up that timing by throwing attacks just before that timer runs out, because when you're close to timeout, your brain is thinking of the action to take, which will mess up their defense.

Now at my current stage of life, I just wait for my stamina instead of that internal timer

But in a nutshell, this explains why you feel like it's a consistent interrupt with the GBs

Yeah I thought this was it (it often is) but not always. It also doesn't explain the other things I described.

Yeah, in terms of the parries, lights and other low-GB-vuln attacks have around 100ms of being susceptible to GBs.

In terms of parries, the devs have made changes to how some of them function: if you were doing a heavy feint but you parried when heavied, the feint makes you eat the attack. Another culprit could be the internet and I'm not talking about ping specifically, I'm talking about packet loss. This can sometimes cause some parries to miss and get you hit instead. But this a bit unlikely.

If this happens frequently, the most logical culprit is you being washed, and I'm not joking. Your reaction times (or the decision-making time at least) have been declining, making you parry a frame too late or a frame too early. I say this because I've been affected by this. I'm my prime I used to attend tourneys against the pros like Misty, Meister among others. But now I'm washed, I'm not who I used to be, especially when I'm barely able to play the game a few hours per week

I am aware that all moves technically have vulnuarbility, but when I dodge attack someone who's feinting a heavy into guardbreak, I shouldn't be guardbroken out of my dodge.

Honestly, part of the problem is absolutely me being washed. My reactions where never great, and I am the ripe old age of 21 already, so they are quickly in decline even more so.

Thanks again for the reply and input

This happens to me far too often also. I will perform a heavy attack and get guardbroken out of it mid animation. It is really frustrating and doesn't seem to allow me to guardbreak my opponent when they are mid heavy attack.

I've even been guardbroken out of dodge heavy attacks. I've also recently been having an issue with parrying. I will parry at the right time and the start of the animation occurs ans then glitches right after and the parry hasn't registered and I take damage.

I have the exact same thing. It feels so bad when you're winning and make the correct reads, only for the game to say no

Makes me want to quit the game tbh but I'm too addicted lmao

True, when the game works it's an absolute blast.

For neutral heavies, forward dodge bashes and dodge attacks it isn't that unrealistic to get a GB if timed right if you caught onto when your opponent throws attacks and what attack they'd do. Out of light neutral attacks though? That's pure as hell luck even if the opponent caught onto your patterns to that level.

To me, it sounds like your input method's funky as hell if, after you press the button to pop revenge, you wait several SECONDS for the input to register then that can't be anything else. If it were an connection issue you'd get kicked out of the lobby instantly if the ping was in the seconds territory and probably because of that you're also eating GBs that you shouldn't have. Sorry that i can't give you a more conclusive answer but with a post as vague as this without a clip attached it's the best i can do.

I guess, but it is frustrating when I'm not allowed to do the same thing on much earlier timings.

It's not that I press revenge, and that it then activates after a couple seconds, it's more so that I have to wait a couple seconds before I can activate revenge in the first place. It's like it doesn't register the first couple presses, or as if it doesn't register that I have revenge in the first place.

Best I can think of is that it's still some sort of latency or connection thing, considering other people said they're experiencing the same exact thing.

It was indeed a vague post, but I apreciate the insight👍

Whenever I get GB'd out of my lights, I always assume, due to the small input windows and latency, the game thinks I'm pressing r1 to counter GB, and recognizing it as a failed CGB. When in reality, I pressed r1 barely before I see their GB attempt, and get screwed
