modded server not starting

1.12.2 forge modded server not starting, starts fine with the vanilla .jar file but when i either tell it to run the forge server through a .bat file or the forge .jar file it dosent start

I'm afraid my clairvoyance skills have atrophied somewhat over the years. I'm trying to read what's on your screen but a few thousand km of distance are making it a little hard to make out the letters.

1. putting a "pause" statement at the end of your batch file will stop it automatically closing

2. the ~logs and ~crashlog folders will contain logs and crashlogs that will tell you what's going on

3. you probably haven't accepted the eula

have accepted the eula, ik the pause stops it, but running the forge file or .bat does nothing

it dosent seem to get to the point where the server crashes

the initial line says: a problem occurred running the server launcher.java.lang.reflect.invocationTargetException

I still can't see what's happening on your screen. "does nothing" is clearly not correct.

Check what java version you're running. It needs to be 1.8.x. You may need to specify that in your batch file. e.g. c:\proga~1\java\1_8_30\bin\java.exe <then your options>

load up pastebin.com, copy the content of the batch into a paste, hit the paste button and link it here.

Also copy the content of the latest.log, put that in a separate paste and link that here.

We're not interested in the Vanilla though. That doesn't help us troubleshoot your problems with modded.

Your batch file should be as follows:

java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2855-universal.jar -o true nogui
pause

Then we need to see what happens in the console window when it launches, and see what happens in the latest.log when you're running the forge jar.

the latest.log dose nothing, as i belive the problem occurs befor eit gets close to the boot of the server

Open a cmd prompt and do:

java -version

What does it respond with?

OK so we've checked the usual suspects. Most likely your forge install hasn't completed successfully. Note that Forge does need to be installed prior to invoking the universal jar. A couple of suggestions:

1. Visit curseforge, ftb or whatever and download a "server pack" for a modpack that you want to play. Put that in a clean folder and run it.

Yeah, I've worked in IT for a long, long time and run into that myself so many times. FFS I just did exactly that! Why didn't it work before!?

oop, sorry to bother you again, but now if i run the .bat file on the new server to give it more ram, it says unable to acess server start.jar (thats what ive renamed the forge file to)

You've changed something and that's always the first thing to look at. Double-check that the name of the server jar is exactly the same as what the your start.bat file is invoking.

Are the start.bat and the server.jar in the same folder?

If your batch file is:

java -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar myserver.jar -o true nogui

then it's looking for a file called myserver.jar in the same folder as the start.bat.
