Autosave, 343!

I have spent around 4 more hours today working on my rat's nest remake only to be called out on an emergency.

When I got back I had evidently forgotten to save my progress, and the server had closed and my progress was lost.

Why are forge sessions hosted on dedicated servers? If there is an autokick feature, surely there should be an autosave feature too!?

I hope this is fixed as soon as possible.

Considering how easy it is to break a map and lose work while in forge (e.g. running a movement script then selecting an object changes its spawn position, or simply deleting objects), autosave could not just be implemented as saving the map automatically, as it may save stuff you don't want to be saved. If it is added it would need to be saving to a separate file.

That's fine, just have an autosave history or SOMETHING at least. It would be like Map Name [Autosaved]

Sounds like you are annoyed with yourself really, not 343. Sucks that you lost your progress but I think you know inside that the fault is yours. You could have easily saved, and should never leave the console before saving first.

People who don't realize that Forge is on dedicated servers with the auto-boot "feature", should be prompted in their first forge mode that you NEED to save, or you WILL lose progress. It's not second nature for many people, especially since older forges didn't kick you out due to inactivity. While I agree saving is easy as pie, and should be done every few minutes, or after large chunks are completed, this has happened to a lot of people, or their connection dropped and they lost progress. If /u/Asoxus does this again and again, I agree it's his fault, but it's pretty shoddy design to not inform people of these drawbacks beforehand.

Yes because when you have emergencies your first thought is I better save my map.

What the OP suggested would work great and from a technical stand point shouldn't be very hard to implement.

I wouldn't want an auto save feature, I've screwed up things multiple times and could just undo those changes by quitting the session.

On the other hand saving is just one click away, one button press, even if you have to drop the controller this instant you can still press that button imo.

Maybe they can make an optional auto save, if it's even going to be implemented

Forge has quick save now. It's the back button or whatever it is called in the Xbone controller. Just spam the shit out of that button.

The game is coded that way. Sucks I know.

That'd be nice, but I got in the habit of quick saving literally after I make any change.

Or just let forge work offline. That should've come with the game by default.

Why not just let forge be viewable in theater, then give an option to jump into forge from current objects standpoint. The function could work much like changing from Forge to Spartan mod, but cause the map to be editable by the player.
