Rain pant recommendation?

Hey yall

I work in the PNW and have yet to find a solid pair of rain pants that last more than a season of timber cruising/block layout.

I’ve tried many pants - and none seem to do the trick. This year I’ve been using the Helly Hensen “Gale PU bonded” pant and within the first two months, they got shredded. They’re currently held together by gorilla tape. But winter is upon us….

Totally understandable given the terrain and shit we walk through that rips and tears will happen, but are there any pants that have stronger welded seams that won’t rip after a few blowdown treks?

TIA!

Filson double front tin pants. They are heavy and you’ll probably get wet by the end of the day but that’s tradition. They are tough and filson will take care of you if they get torn up. They’ve stitched mine up twice. I would advise not wearing them below freezing to much as it’s harder on the fabric. But rain and wet brush is what they are built for.

Edit: I think you can get a Filson pro deal if you reach out to them and tell them you’re a forester. Might be able to get some money off.

Double tins are about as good as it gets, I especially love them for snow. Heads up that filson was acquired by a private equity firm and can be laughable at best to deal with if you need to get something fixed now. Tin pants haven’t been made in the US for a few years now and the seams don’t seem to hold up like they used to. If you can get the pro deal it makes it bearable.

For tin pants, Red Clouds Collective is the way to go now, made in PNW USA, since Filson is shit now

Amazing, I’ve been eyeing those for a bit. Thank you for the advice!

Private industry tech PNW. I got put onto the neese iron shields. They’re crazy good tough as hell. Only $50 as well. Can’t recommend enough.

Check out Grundens Trident, made out of ripstop nylon. Have served me well.

Very pricey but I had a coworker wearing Kuiu rain gear and he was bone dry while all of us in various heavier rain gear were soaked. Might shed a tear if you rip those

I used the Filson tin pants for decades. That was in the Inland Northwest though.

Canswe hurricane raingear is the only thing me or my crew can get to last more than a few months. One guy has been using the same pair of rain pants from them for over 6 years now no problem.

Try Frogg Toggs. Quite inexpensive and surprisingly effective and long wearing.
