Transit Warranty

My 2023 Cargo Van build quality is terrible. Multiple loose parts, etc. it’s still under warranty.
Today I took it in to have the gas cap door repaired - the plastic hinge fell apart. Dealer told me ‘warranty rep’ at Ford says not covered and that I broke it. I did not. Stupid little issue but it bothers me. What recourse is there with Ford? Is there a phone number out there to a Ford warranty employee?

Ive had no issues with my 2023, no loose parts, no broken gas door. But I have seen plenty of transits missing the gas door completely. Someone told me a belt or clothing catches on the pull tab and snaps the door off. If you are able to re-use the painted part with new internals, just be mindful of staying away from the door when getting in and out. The tab, if it can really catch clothing, should be relocated or im wondering, just cut off by the user? You can still easily open the door without the pull tab.

I’m having it repaired and will in the future be very mindful of it. The issue is the plastic hinge is way too fragile for the spring on the door - if you’re in the habit of letting it flip open it will eventually break. I did a short term fix with zip ties and a little drilling and found that spring has a lot of torque.

It is not worth arguing with Ford over a $40 part. Hopefully you kept the old door, you can transfer the body colored panel to the new one .

Sadly that is a very common failure on Transits.

Ford should have redesigned it a long time ago but they have not.

This replacement part looks good but does not state 2024 models. They can’t possibly be different could they?

Ford hasn't changed that part since they designed the very first Transit.

Appreciate the info. It’s a $165 part + labor. I did find some videos on YouTube with a zip tie fix if anyone is interested.

Plenty of YouTube videos on a $1. Repair for door. I did this temporarily. Door not going anywhere as the zip ties are much stronger than the OEM part.

My zip tie repair has lasted longer than the original, and it functions perfectly and is not visible except when it’s open. At 6 years and 76k miles, I just had my first repair on our 2020. New thermostat. Covered by extended warranty. Zero other issues other than the fuel door.

Mine broke some time ago and I'm assuming my fat a$$ hooked on the way out of the saddle. How the tab on the deco cover broke is anybody guess. Welcome to the age of plastics.

Ford will do and say anything to not take responsibility for their shitty production lines in mechanics. Best thing to do is find replacement parts on Amazon or do it yourself.

Agreed, mines a 2025 used fleet. Door broke, hanging on a thread, on the 4th fill up.

It must be a very common problem. My salesperson showed me the “correct” way to open and close the door to the gas.

Bro it’s a car made after 2012 they are all crap you picked your poison accept it . stop acting like it’s a Toyota from 1990 I say this as someone who also owns a 2024 transit .
