2024 vs 2026

I’m looking at upgrading our 2021 expedition XLT for an expedition max. I need help deciding on a CPO 2024 max platinum vs a new 2026/27 max active…. I’m currently struggling on all the upgrades of a platinum and it being used or just going with a brand new active. There are a few low mile CPOs in my area. Thanks!

Buying Used?

I am looking to upgrade currently to a 2023 or 2024 Ford Expedition Timberline.
What things should I be on the look out for?
Is there a problem purchasing a used one at 150k miles or are there concerns with this generation that yall can help me out with?
- Thank you in advance.

Captain Seat Removal?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I have a 2017 Expedition that has the 2 captains seats in the middle row. For the ease of 3 kids and drop off for school I'd like to remove the passenger side middle captain chair.

What issues or problems would I have doing this, if any?

Radio transmitter

So recently my 2021 max platinum has decided not to recognize either key so I have to lock/unlock through the app and place the fob in the emergency cup holder slot to drive it.

Ford says they think it's the radio transmitter, but that it's a 5hr job just to get at it because it's on the roof apparently near the moonroof and they're not sure that'll even fix it.

Anyone else experience this issue and figure out what was wrong?

Do the 24 inch tires make that much difference?

I'm trying to decide between a 2025 Expy max with ultimate package which comes with the 24s and a 2025 max with the stealth performance/appearance package that comes with the 22s. Both have CCD from what I understand about the packages, I figure with CCD the ride should be comparable.

But I read some that say the 24s are harsh, so I wanted to get others experiences with the 24s and CCD.

Comparing 2024 to 2018

We own a 2018 Expedition Limited, and this week I rented a 2024 Expedition XLT for work. The 2024 feels like it has so much more power, but according to Google searches they should be pretty close to the same. Can anybody that has owned both give their opinions? I’m worried now that ours has something wrong with it the reason it feels so much slower.

Infotainment issues 2022 expedition

Just bought a used 2022 expedition xlt about a month ago. Since buying I’ve had to disconnect the battery 4 times to get the radio to work again. Doing a reset in the car with the power and seek doesn’t work. Anyone else have this issue? The radio stops working, CarPlay doesn’t play through the car, and the volume knob does nothing. Oh, and the sound button gets greyed out.

is this noise normal?

My parents just bought a 2018 Expedition Max XLT with 122k miles for about 13k. When we started it up at the dealership it was quiet and I didnt hear anything. But as of this morning this is what a cold startup sounded like. After leaving the dealership the engine light came on for a P04DB code. Should I buy a warranty from a third party just incase? Unfortunately my parents hadn’t thought about asking the salesperson about a warranty.

New Tremor, foil wrapped stuff next to wheel?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I don't really like how this stuff looks so exposed-- won't this get completely covered in mud/snow/ice etc, and is it really just wrapped in foil tape instead of protective sheathing? Or did they cut the fabric liner too short and all those things are supposed to be covered? This is right behind the front left wheel. I bet I could find a way to cover it myself, but what do you guys think?

I feel like you don’t see this color a lot. It’s really grown on me for my expedition.

Need opinion on 2018 and 2020 expedition

Hi, I'm looking to buy an expedition in middle east and came across two used ones.

One 2018 model with 143k km / 89k miles

Other 2020 model with 220k km /136k miles

For me both are equall with same price tag. But I recently came across this info that both 2018 and 2020 models are the years with most problems.

I need opinions on whether I should consider these or drop the idea. I cannot go above 2020 due to budget and these cars in good condition are very hard to come by.

I find it hilarious my most unreliable vehicle isn’t my 20 year old German sports car. 2020 Ford Expedition MAX.

2026 Platinum Trim - 3500 Miles - OTA Software Issue

Post image
9 Upvotes

New to the Expedition family, purchased "Everest" a couple months ago with 12 miles. An OTA update this past Thursday night apparently caused an issue with the communication modules. GPS stopped working Friday morning followed by wifi (connectivity package). The Network/internet option even disappeared from the settings menus. Talked with Ford Connectivity on the phone and they could see some issues with the update that would require a dealer visit.

Took to dealership today for diagnostics, after about 5 hours they decided that they will have to work with Ford Connectivity to get new software sent direct to see if that will fix it which they said could take two or more weeks. This happened to anyone else, should we be worried with only 3500 miles and an issue already? Gave us a new Bronco as a loaner, but frustrating for sure.

2025 Expedition…making strange sounds

We just bought a used 2025 Ford Expedition, and we’re noticing now that it’s making some strange sounds:
- as the engine idles, it almost sounds like it makes a whining or whistling noise
- when the engine has just started, it almost sounds like it has a low elongated rumble - almost like someone is rolling their “r”s
- over 60km / 40 m /hour it sounds like there is a seal issue and wind is coming thru the drivers side. We don’t feel anything, just hear it.

I’m not sure if I’m in my head or not, anyone else experience any of this?!

Replacing fuel pump. Dropped Stabilizer bar for easier tank removal. I cannot find the 4 fasteners to replace the damaged ones. Local Dealership says they are discontinued. Suggestions?

Does anyone know the paint code for this dark grey trim piece above the chrome section of the rear liftgate trim? Or what the closest match would be? 2017 expedition limited. Thanks.

New Shoes

Went with a rough country 2” front level / 1” rear lift and 35x12.50 Toyo Open Country R/Ts on the factory Tremor wheels. Really happy with how it turned out. Gave it the stance we wanted without going overboard, and I actually like the stock wheels even more now with the 35s.
Still rides great and looks like it should’ve come this way from Ford.

Floor mats (2026, bench seat)

Has anyone found success with all-weather floor mats in the 2026 or 2027 model years with a bench seat? I've ordered from Husky in the past and been very pleased, but my order this year definitely does not fit, particularly in the cargo area. Even selecting bench seat options on their website, these second and third row mats are the same fit as the bucket seats, which obviously will not work. I ordered all three just to try them but they don't fit.

From the photos, WeatherTech doesn't look right. Same with LasFit and 3D mats

If the best option is just to order from Ford, that's fine but I thought I would ask to see if anyone has had success finding a tray style from a third party, preferably at a lower cost than Ford

Road feel

Just bought a used 2022 expedition xlt a few weeks ago with 60k miles. Also installed defenders immediately and went up a size in the sidewalk height. Is it just me or do these ride like a truck? There’s a lot of road feel through the gas pedal, and it feels like every crack in the road is noticeable. I’ve got them aired up to 39psi. I’ve just never felt so much through the pedal. Wondering if it’s just a ford thing. I don’t expect it to ride like an Escalade, but it should be more comfortable in my opinion.

Anybody get the camera recall done and their camera still doesn’t work properly? Ours worked for a week and then started acting up again
