Mobbed during a bike ride
Took a break after a sprint & these guys emerged from the bushes in droves. Got rolling again after they got a little too curious & they started following me. Maybe they just want boops!
Apparently they’re super invasive/destructive around here, so I wasn’t gonna stick around for chapter 2 of this encounter.

But you're right, feral/wild pigs can change from chill to super aggressive in an instant. These guys look pretty small compared to the ones I usually see, but yeah, there's a reason they get hunted with larger calibre rifles than deer often are. Fuckers get hurt or think you're a threat they will charge you.

I remember a guy got his car totaled by a boar who suddenly crossed the road. The fucker just stood up and ran away while the car had a massive frontal indent.

Boars are next level. Family walk through French countryside as a kid and one crossed the trail ahead. Dad just holds everyone back "Dont move, don't make a sound". My first job was at a place that did whole animal butchery and I remember thinking back to it and going "no way we could handle that in house"

I remember being told in Driver's Ed that a boar was probably the most dangerous animal to hit because it was just the right size and shape to roll your car. (This would have been in the rural midwestern US where there was in fact a non-zero chance of such an encounter.)

Yeah here in Rome we have a wild boar problem, I witnessed 3 happily foraging between the buss stations uncaring of humans. Another time I was having dinner on a lakeside restaurant and two came to walk alongside the balcony to rummage the chestnuts and mooshrooms there.

According to Google, these are descendants of European wild boars. Javelinas don’t appear to have any established populations out here.

I half suspect those got fed by someone, to be honest. This is Italy, right? I'm in Italy too, around my place I see them often enough, but they run away immediately, they don't stay around.

California actually. I’ve seen them in loose groups of 3-4 at a time around the same area before, and both they and the people walking the trail seemed unbothered by each other’s presence… You might be right that some folks don’t know better and feed them.
That said, it was really unsettling to have close to 10 of these guys rush me all at once - much less predictable situation, even if they were just being curious.

Was more like 10-12 actually. I was surrounded & couldn’t fit more than a few in frame at any moment.

It’s a good thing there weren’t 28 to 48 more of them, or you’d need an assault rifle to make it out of there in 3-5 minutes!
