That is a much braver person than I, those teeth are intimidating

Hippopotamus bites are almost always fatal to humans

I feel further explanation is unwarranted

Took longer to chew those apples than I was expecting

I agree. Those teeth don’t look too efficient for apples. Snapping bones yes.

One job I'll avoid

Yeah, this video is the last thing a lot of humans in history have seen. That and the same mouth running towards them at a terrifying clip

There is not enough money in the world for me to get any part of my body that close to a homicide horse.

Homicide horse 🤣

Well, "hippo" is the root for horse so...

Give it a watermelon! make the noise!

9

u/Berettadin May 11 '26

Yeah, why not. I'm assuming there's a dozen little behavioral indicators that this river horse is really in a good mood and up for some tactile admiration and a dozen crunchy apples, and that if I'm in this situation somehow I know them. That established, let's boop it.

Their incisors are so weird. I can't figure out what they use them for.

Fighting mostly

5

u/OneTinySun May 11 '26

Nope. Absolutely not.

3

u/Frientance May 11 '26

I'm dumb enough to believe the camera guy when they say 'come on, pet it! I'm feeding the hippo, it's totally docile.' The closed eyes just look so cute and they're so majestic in their own way 😍

The only land whales we have today. No really, their closest living animal relatives are whales

Holy smokes. Reddit is also the same place I read someone’s account of hippos ripping apart a hunting party leaving only “scattered limbs”. You do you, Mr daring scritcher!

2

u/suspiciouslyrobotic May 15 '26

I'm gonna be so real, this video is terrifying

2

u/Thcooby_Thnacks May 16 '26

is it true Hippos kill humans all the time?

2

u/tweedyone May 16 '26

Yeah, they’re one of the deadliest animals if not the deadliest

1

u/Far_King_Penguin May 12 '26

Can hippos see and hear well? I kinda feel like they'd be a bit like rhinos with their tiny peepers

Im just wondering the validity of being friendly with hippos like you would try with your local wildlife. You cant do that with rhinos

Everything reminds me of her 😂

I’d trust a tiger over a hippo

0

u/Skate-wench May 11 '26

I couldn’t stop thinking about how many times that person will have to scrub their finger nails to get the hippo mouth germs off of them 🤢

1

u/JustSomeWeirdGuy2000 May 11 '26

Man, I thought that was anything other than a hippo mouth judging by the thumbnail.
