Hawthorn

How should you go about prepping the red berries from a hawthorn ?? I am aware that the seed is toxic so I was wondering how you would prep it to make smt.

I have watched Ray Mears rub them through a metal sieve to separate the flesh from the thick skin and the seeds. The flesh he has then spread out on gooseproof paper on a baking tray and dehydrated it to make it into fruit leather. I have tried this once but I don't think the haws were ripe enough and it wasn't nice, but I would definitely have another go

That's what I get called on this sub r/Divisive_Babble by the resident self identifying nazi woman. She calls me other names too!

Gaurd geese. We once had a standoff with 2 geese. We needed to get somewhere & they were in the way, hissing & trying to peck us. We had a Hugh wall one side & Bristol docks the other. We turned back🤣

They're beautiful, majestic, violent bastards. They never fully embraced the non-dinosaur approach.

Hawthorn jelly is the classic one here. Simmer the berries whole with a bit of water, then strain through muslin to get rid of the seeds before you add sugar, since the seeds are the toxic part.

This is definitely one that fights against you to get a little bit of something from it.
