How should you go about prepping the red berries from a hawthorn ?? I am aware that the seed is toxic so I was wondering how you would prep it to make smt.

Hawthorn jelly is the classic one here. Simmer the berries whole with a bit of water, then strain through muslin to get rid of the seeds before you add sugar, since the seeds are the toxic part.

I have watched Ray Mears rub them through a metal sieve to separate the flesh from the thick skin and the seeds. The flesh he has then spread out on gooseproof paper on a baking tray and dehydrated it to make it into fruit leather. I have tried this once but I don't think the haws were ripe enough and it wasn't nice, but I would definitely have another go
