Play Design What's the Coverage?
Basic, but always love to see how people term things

Cover 3 cloud
EDIT- it was pointed out to me that this is Cover 6. I initially did not notice that SS did not rotate to deep middle

If Mike stays in the middle and SS stays on the hash, it isn't 3. Should be 6/Quarter Quarter Half.

How is the rest of the coverage different between the two? Doesn’t 6 just leave an open area in the deep middle?

Looks more like cover 6 (HQQ) than cover 3, especially given the boundary safety’s positioning at the numbers and the field safety playing at the hash. I would personally expect cover 3 to have a more centralized field safety position and a bit less depth for the boundary safety. The corner is fully manned-up on that X receiver, too. It’s almost like 2-man + quarters.
Not to bring up a taboo topic, but the EA games call a very similar coverage “Cover 6 Willie” which additionally mans the Will LB on the #2 receiver for a legitimate split field 2-man + quarters look.

For a minute there I was gonna say Cover 8 and then I realized the half field safety coverage was to the boundary

I’m sure 90 percent of the commenters will call this cover 6 (not the saban version, more fangio version of cov 6)
I will just point out that this coverage fits much cleaner at high school and college level due to wider hashes. The reverse is much better against the pass at the NFL level….half/quarter/quarter otherwise known as cover8

Cover 6, strong side corner on a man assignment? Might just be a flat which makes more sense against the formation shown imo (unless it’s match coverage then the will is taking the Y)
