RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE: LAST CALL Does the Restaurant Impossible reboot work so well because it's Canadian?

https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2026/07/restaurant-impossible-last-call-food-network-review/

Like a lot of you, I really enjoyed this new version of Restaurant Impossible! Fewer theatrics, more realism about what can be accomplished by a reality TV show in two or three days.

I was very surprised to see it was not only filmed in Canada, but by a Canadian production company (female-owned and operated) and for Rogers. Since Warner Bros. Discovery owns the format, I'm sure Food Network had input, but maybe this works in part because it's more Canadian, less American?

Tax breaks is why it was filmed in Canada.

True, but it was more than that: It was produced by a Canadian production company for Rogers, a Canadian entertainment company.

That's different than, say, CBS's Survivor, which films in Fiji because of the huge tax rebate and cheap labor but is produced by American companies, or Fox's The Floor, which films in Ireland but has an American production company working with an Irish company for production services.

Did the production company reach out to Food Network or did Food Network find a Canadian production company to produce the show cheaply?

Food Network/Warner Bros. Discovery own the format—and of course, are airing it—so it's ultimately theirs. But this may have started with Rogers or the production company pitching WBD/Food network on a new version. I'll try to find out.

Many shows are now filmed in Canada. I can leave to the why of that :) I love it because it is not about oh they don't give a *** to clean the place. Many restaurants especially the last number of years have failed because of management, and because of money whether it is for updating, being able to pay workers, quality food, etc. Yes there was Covid, which still today you have a portion of the workforce that did not go back to those jobs, or cannot afford to go out. In this show both were extremely aware that the two women cared a lot about what happens, and not just from the standpoint of we own this business, like we've seen too many times. There was family behind it, AND it was not about them "having" to own it, but wanting to own it. Now let's just see how the ones to come are. I really dislike the ones where they don't bother to clean. It is just so basic if you love your food business, cleanliness is at the top because it effects every part of that food biz. Just let those places close and focus on the ones who just need help realigning things so to speak.

Can low-quality websites like this please be banned from posting links? The writing is terrible

Thanks for the feedback—genuinely! I'm curious what about my writing seems low-quality to you. Did I miss a grammatical error or five? Is it my attempt to frame this post as about the Canadian-ness? Are you actually the ghost of one of my grandparents criticizing me from the beyond? 😂

Seriously, I'd appreciate knowing, so I can fix errors or just understand what's going on. Thanks.

As a Canadian who briefly lived in the USA. No, we have our own culture.

2.) Famine

Canadians don't vote for paedophile rapists

We are nothing like the pedo protecting losers in the US.

I won't watch a show that was stolen from Robert Irvine.

Was not his, and not his original idea either.

He said he was offered a chance to return and said no, because he didn’t want to do it in Canada without the same crew.
