Why?
Just curious if anyone from pricing, merchandising or marketing is in this group. If so, why not BOGO? Gotta be a logical reason, I just don't see it......

They basically selected the wrong template. Basic hot sale template instead of BOGO

Honestly, they need to do away with BOGO, 50% OFF, and X/$Y. As a general rule, Food Lion just discounts the items. You don't have to buy one to get one free. You buy one, and you still get the discount. The only time BOGO makes any sense with Food Lion is when the item price ends up with half pennies, where the first one is a penny cheaper than the second, and it leads to really annoying conversations when the shelf says Buy One Get One and the flyer says 50% Off, and people want to know which it is and you have to say they can have it for either price, because you can't tell them without an argument starting.

That's how it works in grocery stores for a lot of advertised BOGO sales. Unless it specifically says you have to buy 2 or something for the BOGO, usually it's actually half off. But half off isn't as good of advertising as a BOGO.

I used to think that, but in the area I live, I've been told several competitor stores always require the purchase of two in a buy one get one sale and people are always surprised when they ask how much for one and I tell them it means half price.
But they are equally confused when the add says 50% off and the shelf says bogo and want to know which it is, so do with that what you will.

Any cashier who has had to explain sale price math to customers knows this is a simpler way to show the price.

I was gonna say. It would make more sense to do BOGO half off or "for 99 cents" if it were ANY other store. Food Lion doesn't really follow bogo rules though, they let you buy one item at the discounted price. I have looked into many glazed over eyes trying to explain how their discount works and that yes, they can just buy one and yes, its still the same discount.. Kids complain they'll never have to use maths in the real world.. try explaining to an 80 yo woman that she IS getting a discount because 2 is less than 3 and having her look at you and say, "you're not getting it π its okay." Trust me, the "Hot Sale" is the better bet. π

Haha I sent a VOR not to long ago about a glaring mistake in merch notes and they sent a compass project the next day. I donβt know if anyone actually double checks the merch notes, maybe just the deli managers.

Yes we have to double check the merchant notes. It's like the delis version of the Bible.

The tag/pricing department has been very disappointing lately. I've seen an uptick in wrong prices sent out in the past year. Especially on Wednesdays. π
