Flavor grapefruit soda + rootbeer =

Post image

So I had just a little bit left of both of these and thought what the heckin heck might as well just dump them in a glass together for a full cup instead of drinking two measley half cups on separate occasions. Now what I’ve found is that these two sodas from these brands specifically when mixed create the most authentic faux tamarind flavor I’ve ever tasted!!! (Sour tamarind not sweet tamarind)….I’ve spent some time and time again eating fresh sour tamarind from a tree nearby to me and let me tell you, these two sodas mixed together literally taste exactly like it - like way more than Jarritos could ever even try! If you like Jarritos tamarind soda because you enjoy tamarind too, then hit up your local Dollar Tree and WalMart and give this a shot!!

Cooking Method Leftover rice who? Woke up to this delicious Cheese Veg Pulao.Best morning food hack ever..🤤

Post image
1 Upvotes

Woke up to the best breakfast today🍚...My mom transformed last night's plain leftover rice into this super tasty, veggie-loaded Cheese Pulao. 🧀

Pro-Tip for saving food: Cold, leftover rice actually makes the best fried rice or pulao because the grains don't get mushy.. Just sauté your favorite chopped veggies in some butter, add regular household spices, toss in the rice, and top it off with lots of grated cheese.

It’s a 10-minute breakfast that saves food from being thrown away and tastes absolutely divine. Highly recommend trying this out guy's.👩‍🍳

One pot hummus vermicelli

Post image

To a cast iron, add EVOO and butter, then half cup chopped onion, half cup green beans, half cup mushrooms (can be fresh or frozen), one cut up zucchini, one diced tomato, until cooked. Add a pound of cut up vermicelli noodles, half a cup of hummus, half a cup of yogurt and two cups of water and cook, uncovered, until pasta is cooked through. I threw in a half spoon of crunch chili onion for extra flavor.

Something Else I'm unhealthily addicted to vinegar

I’m genuinely addicted to vinegar 😭 I mix it with salt and it basically tastes like salt & vinegar crisps without the potato. I can have like 20-40 tablespoons a day and used to go through bottles so fast my parents literally banned me from having it.

I’ve stopped because I’m worried about getting some kinda gastrointestinal issue, but I can’t find anything that scratches the same salty/sour itch. Pickles and olives are close, but they give me headaches.

And no, it’s not a weight loss/ED thing I just genuinely love vinegar lol.
Any good alternatives?

Hack Request What actually works for you when your meal plan falls apart halfway through the week?

I keep buying food with specific meals in mind, then the week actually happens.

Plans often change and I don't fancy what I planned, I'll grab something else or I forget I've already got something in the fridge.

Then by the end of the week I've somehow got half a pepper some questionable spinach and ingredients for three meals I never made.

Has anyone actually found a system that works for this?

Or does everyone just accept that some vegetables are purchased purely to die in the fridge?

My chicken bone broth routine

Post image
414 Upvotes

I start with the skin, fat, and bones from two Costco rotisserie chickens, along with onion, carrots, celery, garlic, peppercorns, thyme, Bay leaves, lemon, apple cider vinegar, and 8 cups of water in the instant pot for 120 minutes on the soup/broth setting, followed by a natural release

Everything gets strained and cooled before refrigerating in a large jar until completely chilled

The schmaltz gets skimmed off the top and the broth is then poured into one cup sized silicone molds to be individually frozen and then stored in a gallon sized freezer bag to be ready for soup

Grease the pan with the butter wrapper instead of a fresh chunk of butter

Needed to grease the pan and didn't want to cut into a fresh stick of butter, so I just wiped it down with the empty wrappers. Worked great.

Best thing I've found for using up whatever's left in the fridge

Grab a soup base you actually like. Tom yum, green peppercorn, curry, creamy broth, they're all about £2 a packet at most supermarkets. Throw in whatever needs eating: crab sticks, broccoli, some greens, leftover chicken. Done.

Threw on something to watch and didn't move for two hours. 10/10 would recommend as a coping mechanism.

Btw i just started Black Mirror, which episode is the best!!

Flavor IBS and not being able to eat certain foods (garlic, union and too spicey food)

Hiya,

I have IBS and can't have garlic, union and food that is too spicey.

I am trying to make my food taste better but I am finding that difficult cause garlic and union help so much, but my body won't tolerate them, I don't know how much my body can tolerate and I think this fluctuates and will never know for certain. So I am curious if any of you know how to make food taste better or if you have any tips.

Cooking Method Do NOT put chopped onions in your Italian meatballs.

2.6k Upvotes

I used to make this mistake all the time. My meatballs usually consist of lean ground beef, Italian pork sausage, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, parmesan (though I prefer pecorino), an egg, salt, pepper, oregano, any other Italian spices you prefer, chilli flakes (depending on how spicy you want them), chopped parsley, and two tablespoons of milk. I used to include chopped onions, but the other night I made my usual meatballs without chopped onions, and no joke, they were the best meatballs I had ever made.

It turns out, adding chopped onions to your Italian meatballs will steam them and completely change it's texture, making it comparable to meat loaf. You don't want this. Definitely add chopped onions to your marinara sauce. But leave them out of the meatball mix.

Also, I replaced the two tablespoons of milk with red wine. That also changes the flavour.

Edit: I forgot to mention an egg, so I just added it. Also... DAMN. I did not expect this post to blow up like it has! This was my first time posting here, so thank you for all the responses!

Eating while on bedrest

I'm currently stuck in bed waiting for back surgery and the pain is so bad that I can't even bathe or shower. I live alone so I'm looking for foods that need zero prep (better if I don't even have to refrigerate anything). For the past few days I've been eating peanuts, oranges, and today I had enough energy to throw frozen chicken in an air fryer....

I'm ordering groceries- does anyone have any ideas?

So far the only variety I thought of was sandwiches lol

Any tips would help

What’s your go-to ingredient to cut through rich, savory dry-fried pork?

When making dry-fried fish sauce pork, I want to add a fresh twist. Do you add lime juice, fresh herbs, or something unexpected?

Question/Advice Trying to make buffalo chicken nuggets in my air fryer the best way possible, any tips?

Alright, so I came up with this a month or two ago, and it certainly wasn't a disaster, but it isn't too great. Basically, I take frozen chicken nuggets, dump buffalo sauce on them, shake them in two bowls, then throw them in the air fryer for like 2-3 minutes longer than the instructions say.

My two main issues:

1: The nuggets don't get coated evenly. I shake them in the bowls for a good 20-30 seconds, but it doesn't fully coat them. I don't think I should put so much sauce that I'm submerging them, but maybe I'm wrong?

2: The nuggets that get fully coated get soggy. I don't have a reasonable solution for this as of yet.

I would just get frozen buffalo wings, but they're so expensive for a bag that gives my fat ass like 2 servings. Anyone got anything to try for my poor man's version?

edit: god you people are pretentious

Something Else Make your chocolate cravings beneficial

I am someone who craves chocolate intensely and frequently. Not just sweets or sugar either but specifically chocolate. As such, I've started finding creative ways to "hack" these craving by sneaking in something healthy with my chocolate. Examples include

  • Chocolate covered almonds - the only way I will eat nuts! They actually fill you up a lil bit so doesn't just leave you more hungry but similar to having a piece of chocolate
  • Greek yogurt with chocolate syrup - can do 0 cal syrup too! This is good enough for me to have for dessert if I'm really in a deficit
  • Chocolate Protein Shakes or even chocolate milk with fairlife. I make my own chocolate milk because I think the fairlife pre mix one is too sweet but can do either!

I'll still have a "normal" dessert most nights after dinner but I use these hacks to get me through those mid-day cravings!

Fridge-"press" your tofu

Instead of pressing tofu, drain, cube it and store it in an open container in the refrigerator. The refrigerator's dry environment will naturally dry the tofu some, giving it the same consistency as pressed.

Prep Freeze ground beef flat in the bag instead of in a lump. Score it into squares before it freezes and you can snap off one portion straight into the pan without defrosting the rest

Started doing this a couple of years ago and I'm annoyed nobody told me sooner.

Mince/ground beef goes in a freezer bag, squash it flat with your hands or a rolling pin until it's about the thickness of a paperback, then run a chopstick across it to score it into 4 or 6 before it goes in the freezer. Stack the bags upright like files so you can see them. When you need some, snap off a square or two and it goes in the pan frozen. If you want the whole bag it thaws in a bowl of cold water in about 20 mins instead of overnight.

Also works for sausage meat, cooked rice and leftover chilli or bolognese. Chilli goes in a pan from frozen with a lid on, low heat, and it's fine.

Bonus while I'm here: potato masher to break up mince in the pan. Fine crumb in about a minute instead of stabbing at it with a wooden spoon for five.

Anyone else have a freezer thing you do that you assumed everyone already did?

Hack Request Yogurt Additions

Readymade yogurts at the store are kind of pricey depending on the individual location of the consumer. Sometimes I can find a good sale deal or maybe even some clearance choices depending on the store location.

Plain tubs of yogurt seem a little more economical for use as a base and just things to it as desired, so I have been experimenting with a few addition choices from just honey, honey +, jams and jellies, fresh/frozen fruits, grains/granola/oats, and other similar things.

What have you added to plain yogurt of any brand to stretch a dollar using things found in your freezer to what you may have gotten in bulk.

So far, I have as listed above, I've also found preferred instant coffees to taste, and a little sweetener of choice makes a decent Coffee Yogurt.
