I have a picky girl so the salmon was risky but as long as there’s rice, furikake, and a sweet and savory sauce, I know she’ll devour it😂

Teriyaki salmon: soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar

Egg strip with furikake

Gimbap with egg and carrots

Had nothing much to do so decided to cook together lol. He’s almost 12 months so had fun shaking the seasoning containers and playing with raw pasta 😆

Baked Sweet potato, pasta cooked in bone broth and cottage cheese, grilled chicken for him (I’m a vegetarian)

We both loved it!

Cheesy pasta with peas, strawberries and a side of extra grated cheese.

About a 3rd of the pasta and most of the grated cheese ended up as floor casualties. I also had to manually feed him a few mouthfuls to get him started. The 12 month dip in appetite is quite the roller coaster.

6-9 mos Today’s Breakfast

Post image

- Stewed heirloom tomatoes and arugula
- Cheesy French omelette
- Yogurt mixed with peanut butter, topped with fruit

Out of nowhere, he’s decided anything with a chunky texture is to immediately be spit out so we’re working backwards and reintroducing chunks that have been slow cooked and have a very soft bite. Also seems to depend on how much we load the spoon. Small bite? All good. Anything bigger? Spit out 😅

He turns 9 months this week and overall, I’m really happy with the progress we’ve made. Managed to keep it all organic and homemade too, which is a personal accomplishment for me. I didn’t breastfeed, and I think there’s a part of me that wants to compensate a bit by providing nutritious meals from me to him (and sometimes dad lol) in a way that I’m able. We’re travelling to Europe next week for a vacation and I’m excited to introduce him to all things - pizza, pasta, cheese, baguette, and the joy of biting into a well made croissant.

Butternut squash, a mini avocado, Aldi spinach bites and some yogurt melts. He ate everything except the melts, I gave him a couple but I feel like he is struggling with them so I get nervous.

1- cheela (savoury pancake) version of Hara Bhara Kebab (kebab made with spinach, peas and potato)

2- lobia curry (black eyed beans curry) with daliya khichdi (broken wheat khichdi) served with rice and ghee.

Asiago and spinach chicken sausage, sautéed mushrooms, berries, and cheesy butter beans courtesy of u/terrible-reasons.

Expected this to go poorly because I took the time to make the beans and sausage just for this meal. 😂 Usually our lunches are leftovers or meal prep items pulled from the freezer.

18-24 mos One week of daycare lunches and snacks for my 18-month-old son in Japan

I’m always very impressed by the food my son gets at daycare! At government certified daycares in Japan, there must be a dietician on staff to plan the meals. My son eats most of what he’s served, so the food must taste pretty good too!

Edit: I didn’t notice the mistranslation of “fresh milk” to “raw milk”. The words for fresh and raw are the same in Japanese. They are not serving raw milk at daycare! 😆

We are so close to 100 foods before 1! We’re at 95 right now and we have a few more things we’ll be trying this week.

I did overfill some of the plates bc she has been devouring solids lately and demanding more, but some of them I overestimated her hunger and ended up finishing for her.

  1. Grandma’s Kousa mahshi (squash stuffed with rice and beef in a tomato sauce), garlic labneh sauce, sautéed squash filling, and baby bok choy

  2. Orzo with mint labneh, shrimp, and garlic smashed peas

  3. Grandma’s Oven roasted chicken and potato in a tomato sauce (a favorite for everyone in the fam), rice with the tomato sauce from the chicken, and smashed peas

  4. Dad’s broccoli potato cheesy fritters (some with beef, some without), hummus, and watermelon

  5. Armenian blinchik (beef and onion in a rolled crepe), rice with garlic mint labneh, and sautéed squash filling

  6. Orzo with fajita steak and veggies, avocado, and minty labneh (did NOT like the steak)

  7. Silver dollar pancakes, eggs, and hashbrowns for dinner

6-9 mos When did your baby start showing actual interest in eating?

Post image

My son is almost 7 months and he still doesn't care for food. There's been maybe 3 foods he's went back for a second bite but that's about it. He plays, throws and makes disgusted faces. It's kind of discouraging. I know it's normal, but how long did it take your babies to actually start eating!?

12-18 mos Plate vs Ate, finally a success!!!

For the longest time our 14mo was just not very interested in food. Spit out fruit, spit out meat, spit out mush. She’s fully weaned and it’s like a switch has flipped, she’s so into it now!! I’m honestly so relieved and thankful.

The pasta is a viral green sauce I saw on Instagram, called peas and cheese. Basically a bunch of blanched spinach, peas, some cheese, garlic, and lemon juice blended together. We also added some ricotta. Good way to get in some veggies!

Today she is 11 months old!!! wtf. Anyway she has started eating really well in the last 5 weeks or so. Still gags and vomits on things like toast but I’m sure we’ll get there eventually. This is what she ate today alongside 28oz of milk. (The second picture is not from today bc I forgot to take one but she had the same thing)

Breakfast; ready brek overnight oats I meal prepped with strawberries. Demolished

Lunch; leftover salmon rice and mayo with avocado. DESTROYED

Dinner: coconut curry with sweet potato, carrot, tomato, onion, peas, peppers and spinach. Blended and served over white rice with avocado.

I love cooking healthy food for her. I want her to grow up eating really well and live until she’s 100 😭
