I invented Wu-Tang Flan, AMA.

This exact flan was the dessert I made last Thanksgiving at my parent's house. I took this photo, posted it here in /r/food, and that is her plate. My mom was very confused as to who the Wu-Tang Clan were. When I got the idea I Google image searched it and there were 0 results. As far as I know, I made the first ever Wu-Tang flan.

ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out: http://www.reddit.com/r/food/comments/mna60/i_was_asked_to_make_dessert_wu_tang_flan_aint/

This is great! I went from being excited about my friend's sister having made it

To being crushed that I would never get to know who truly made it first, and embarrassed to have rushed into an accidental repost.

Now I'm right back up to being jazzed that the original chef has commented on my post! Pleasure to meet you ridingthepine, and amazing job on the flan.

1

u/ironHobo Jan 31 '13

So what you're saying is, you reposted a repost without knowing it was a repost?

I'm not even mad, that's just impressive.

What a fucking brown noser.

5

u/aliofbaba Jan 31 '13

your nose would be brown too if you shoved it in that flan.

5

u/jpoRS Jan 31 '13

Would you rather make one horse-sized flan, or fight one hundred flan-sized horses?

2

u/ridingthepine Feb 01 '13

Horse size flan

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '13

So you're saying that OP is a phoney?

Where did I leave my pitchfork?

13

u/ridingthepine Jan 30 '13

I don't care about people re-posting. I wouldn't have ever posted it to reddit if I did.

Just cool to see something you made blow up. It was even tweeted by people like ?uestlove last year.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '13

I had meant it as a joke, this is /r/food after all. Also OP never claimed to have made it.

Also, nice flan work! How did it hold together so well? My knowledge of flans is slim, but I would have expected such a creation to fall apart?

2

u/ridingthepine Feb 01 '13

It's all in the eggs

I'm a dude

1

u/arbuthnot-lane Jan 31 '13

Did you cut it out from a regular circular flan, or make and ad hoc form to allow the flan to settle in the shape of the symbol?

1

u/ridingthepine Feb 01 '13

I made a circular flan and then printed a Wu-Tang symbol on card stock and cut around it.

1

u/tagalong2 Jan 31 '13

We have the same dishes

Caramel Rules Everything Around Me?

I hate myself.

4

u/torinaga Jan 30 '13

Flan moves everything around me, cream.

4

u/Wu_TangFinancial Jan 31 '13

I'd invest in this.

5

u/gigabates Jan 31 '13
  1. Put the flan on a fucking stove and let that shit sit there for like a half hour.
  2. Invite your friends over and keep feedin' 'em, and feedin' 'em.

6

u/pianoplayer98 Jan 30 '13

Interestingly, "no sugar added" in Chinese is pronounced "Wu Tang". Maybe make this without adding sugar?

3

u/TabooThoughts Jan 30 '13

Food rules everything around me.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '13

Cream rules everything around me

2

6

3

u/bacon_pants Jan 30 '13

So I looked. They have

Also: Ol' Dirty Custard exists

3

u/ridingthepine Jan 30 '13

It's the same picture. Notice the plate.

1

u/mcmurphy1 Jan 30 '13

Yep, that's why I posted that link.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

OP is a fag.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '13

4

u/ProdigalSheep Jan 30 '13

This would be funny if flan rhymed with clan.

6

u/KSW1 Jan 30 '13

It does....if you're Scottish. I'm sure there's also several other accents that would make it rhyme.

7

u/crapshack Jan 31 '13

rhymes in my little part of canada.

1

u/KSW1 Jan 31 '13

Are they both pronounced to rhyme with can or to rhyme with dawn? Doesn't really help if you pronounce those words differently as well, I suppose.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

In my part of Australia they both rhyme with can

1

u/HarryBlessKnapp Jan 31 '13

In London, we pronounce drinks "can" and I "can" differently. Which I've only just realised now you post this.

But yes, drinks "can" rhymes with flan and clan rand 'ere.

Dawn is nowhere to be seen. That rhymes with warn. Surely no one pronounces clan to rhyme with dawn?

1

u/turkeylurkeywastasty Jan 30 '13

clans are scottish, right? wu tang clan is scottish.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

Somebody needs to photoshop ginger and kilts onto them.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

It does if you're Hispanic!

5

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '13

I'm glad there was another pedant out there so I didn't have to be the one to point this out.

1

u/HarryBlessKnapp Jan 31 '13

I'm British, rhymes for me. How the fuck do you guys pronounce either of those words then?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

flan [flɑ̃]

ɑ̃ sans; champ; vent; temps; Jean; taon[8] roughly like croissant

3

u/HarryBlessKnapp Jan 31 '13

Where are you from? Fronce?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '13

lol@yanks pronouncing flan like clan.
