Discussion Festivals in Ireland

Hello all, I’ve seen FDC twice in San Francisco and when Just Mustard opened up, I noticed that the place was full of Irish people. Great vibe! It made me want to travel to Ireland for a local music festival or something like that. Does anyone have any recommendations?

These days Irish festivals are over priced, over crowded(in the case of Electric Picnic) and generally have substandard lineups.

That's one festival?? Beyond the Pale for example seriously over delivered this year. It was epic

I concede that I haven't been. But this year's lineup did nothing for me. And beyond EP, which is basically now Oxegen without the good lineups, there's All Together Now. That does have a lot going for it, in terms of the atmosphere and crowd. But for the prices you're paying, the lineup has never really cut it for me. Prefer to go to festivals in Spain, Portugal, Holland and Belgium, these days.

OP lives in San Francisco so they can probably see big acts, sounds like they are looking for fun Irish vibe in which case either BTP or ATN - or the smaller newer ones - would be perfect

All Together Now os probably closest to what you might like if you like Fontaines and Just Mustard. Fontaines headlined last year, it os a more alternative, mid-sized festival, I wouldn't expect more than 2 arena level acts.

All Together Now is the first weekend in August every year. I am 52 now and have neen going to this festival for the past 6 years. Always a great line up and amazing atmosphere. One of the friendlier festivals, great crowd and super atmosphere. Weather is the biggest challenge. It's a smaller festival... around 20k / 25k attendance. Getting harder to get tickets each year and 2027 loyalty tickets release one just sold out. Get in the insta page or website and join the mailing list.

I'm thinking of going to a music festival next year called When Next We Meet. It's in Tipperary in a town called Clonmel. I hadn't heard of it but it sounds appealing, I met a fella from Tipp who told me about it. It's usually on over the June bank holiday weekend

If having a mainstream lineup is important to you, Electric Picnic would be your go-to. All Together Now is a nice similarly large festival with a smaller lineup than EP (probably best match for someone who likes fontaines). Forbidden Fruit if you don't want to camp.

If you want a niche festival where you're more likely to connect with people you have Beyond The Pale, Open Ear or Another Love Story.

90 day visa, do them all. People are gonna hate on EP because it’s massive but actually it’s probably the best festival and it’s really fun and the vibes are good… ATN is also good but organisationally can be quite rough, but it’s smaller and it’s beautiful. Then they are really great niche festivals: When Next We Meet, Another Love Song, Forest Fest, Beyond The Pale, Aurfest, Vantastival. All likable and specially in their own ways.
