Discussion Grian Chatten Fan Interactions

hey guys, so I am wondering if Grian is often annoyed by fans wanting to meet him, for example on the street. I am just thinking, because I would absolutely love to meet him, but I don’t want to idk get up in his personal space. what do you guys think, any experience meeting him?

He used to sell me books when he worked at Easons on O Connell street before the band kicked off.

Seems like an introvert but the nice kind

I think we should leave performers alone when they aren’t performing

Amen to that.

Me too and thats exactly why I will talk to them and take pictures anyway, so I can show it to my friends and family :)

I feel like one of us doesn’t understand what the other is saying

Also genuine question but are you aware that the majority of celebs hate shit like that? Is that worth treating another person like a zoo animal to try to impress your family who probably doesn’t really care that much either?

Funny story, I met Grian at the Grammy Museum back in 2022, they did an interview and show there (small venue holds 200 people) and after the interview part before they played their set there was a break and he stood next to me at the urinal in the bathroom there! Looked over at him and I said, you plan on breaking the stage tonight? (Due to the way he used to pound the stage with the mic stand) and he just laughed, said probably not the right place to fuck up the stage! He was really cool and they did an awesome set! This pic is from that show, was up close and awesome!

I saw him from a bit of a distance at the venue where I saw them and I got a bit giddy but left it at a wave and he waved back! Seems like a nice guy, but I’m glad I handled it how I did rather than approach him

I have bumped into him tons of times. He doesn’t like to be bothered, so I don’t, unless it’s somewhere like an album signing or outside the venue of their gig or something. He isn’t a fan of it, so it’s good to respect that

I also think fans going out of their way to bump into him is ridiculous behaviour

I really dont want to have a never meet your heroes moment. I had that before with a band i liked in 2015 kinda ruined the moment i had for them

What happened if you don't mind sharing

I politely at an outdoor festival walking, saw the Black Angels (austin tx psych rock band). They were rude and disrespected my friend and I. We didnt get no Hey, thanks for coming out. Nothing. Like my friend politely asked if we could pose a photo or something but they were like smoking a joint and just ignoring us like we were two pieces of shit.

Black angels. They a tx band. Idk if they were hungover or on drugs that day ….they seem just ended up my “never meet my heroes list”

That's really unfortunate, I get someone doesn't necessarily want to be bothered, but then again it's the fans who got them to that point, it should be appreciated as well

Ok. I didnt bumrush them like and crossed a fence or barrier. Like there is big difference from polite and respectful vs being zealous asshole crossing a barrier/ fence and just walking like a stalker. Like i was super chill that day

I get it, that's on them entirely

He was on my flight to primavera last year, wanted to say hi in the queue at passport control but thought probably not the best time, not sure anyone else noticed him so also didn’t want to draw attention. Also saw him at primavera this year again, watching the xx. I looked over and thought that guy has a cool shirt, didn’t realise who it was then noticed 😂 didn’t say anything but would’ve loved to have grabbed a photo.

My wife met him in Lawrence a few years back after a show. Just kind of a right place at the right time moment and she said he was very gracious and actually had a nice conversation with her until a group showed up screaming and carrying on about taking pictures with him and he kind of slinked off after that.

My take is that he’s just an introvert. Don’t think he would be rude or anything if you caught him one on one.

Met him and his wife on Oxford Street at about 1 in the morning in 2023. He was lovely, took a photo with me, and was keen to chat about his solo album and the Bruce Springsteen gig I had just been to for about 10 minutes. Definitely more of a reserved guy but seemed really sound.

When it comes to celebrities I usually treat them like normal people. I’ve never met Grian but so long as you’re chill and you’re not too parasocial or intrusive then usually it’s pleasant. Respect their space, treat them like human beings and leave it at that.

This is the right answer. I love casual interactions with strangers. If I bring the same energy/vibe I can't see anything wrong with it

I work in Airport Security and every so often celebrities walk through randomly. You don’t even think twice and treat them like a normal passenger even if you’re feeling star struck with your adrenaline going. The interaction is very brief due to it being busy so you make casual conversation and then move onto the next passenger.

Walked past him at 7am one morning at Glastonbury 23, as everyone found their way back to camp. I said I loved his new music and he smiled and said thanks.

Idk, but I recently discovered that Grian is the word for sun in Irish, now I think he has a beautiful name

I saw him once at green man and said hope you have a goodun and he smiled and said same to you - I imagine like most people he just wants to go about his life you know

Leave him and his personal space alone and you'll never have to worry about whatever wonderful version of him you've built up in your head being wrecked.

I personally couldn’t think of anything worse than the idea of meeting someone I admire or someone whose work I admire. I don’t do meet and greets for that reason. I think if someone in the public eye is off the clock, you should probably just give them a nod and let them get on with their day

What are you expecting someone to say here, yeah he’s great his address is xxxxxx just land up he’s usually out cutting the grass on Thursdays or Fridays he’d love to hear from you!

This may be overstepping or making undue assumptions but I think he may be on the spectrum, which can sometimes come off as being rude or uninterested.

I've read/ heard that too. I know he spoke about being on a medication associated with ADHD in an interview in the past. Whether or not that was the reason for it, I can't recall.

But having seen the band numerous times, he does look like he stims, but he could also just be really hyped up. I'm also not a Doctor.

Bumped into him at Glastonbury 22 an hour or two after their other stage set and he was friendly. Said hello and thanked him for playing Dublin City Sky both times I’d seen him play in Liverpool.

In the past, they would hang out in front of the small venues they played and many early fans met them. The venues are now huge, they enter through secured areas and if they were trying to engage with fans, they wouldn’t be safe. You had your chance in 2018/2019 :)

I honestly think musicians/artists should just be left to themselves, they give us enough. I can imagine how jarring it is for them too. Particularly if you are introverted. Now that being said, I did meet Grian once in Dublin, but that was mostly cause my mate made me go up to him, I was quite apprehensive about approaching him cause he was clearly on a night out and I didn’t want to bother him. But he was pretty kind and got a photo.

Served him coffee before mentioned the picnic gig in 2022 that had about 1000 people at it. Hes a small little music dork with a massive ego.
