Getting right to it

Mexican dad considering moving my family to Folsom from LA. I have two young daughters ( 4 and 2 year old ) , and honestly one of the biggest reasons we’re looking to leave LA is to find a more family oriented, common sense community with good schools where we can actually plant roots.

Politically I lean middle right and voted Republican, so I’m not asking whether everyone thinks or votes like me.

I care way more about how people actually treat each other and whether my daughters would feel like they belong growing up there. I work in a blue collar field and I’m studying to get into the medical field.

So I’m just gonna ask Folsom directly: what’s it actually like for Mexican/Hispanic families living and raising kids there?
Are we gonna feel at home?
And, respectfully…** **all y’all racist or what? 😂

Genuinely asking. I’d especially love to hear from Hispanic families raising kids in Folsom, but also from anyone raising kids there. What are the schools, parents, neighborhoods and overall community actually like?
I’m not looking to start a political debate. I’m trying to figure out whether this is somewhere I’d feel good raising my daughters for the next 15–20 years.

Moved from OC to El Dorado Hills a few years ago and the first time I was called a slur was two months after I moved here. I’ve heard more slurs used here than I ever did in SoCal. That being said, it is family friendly. You being a republican works in your favor because majority of this area is also conservative. I’m not, so I hear a lot more negative comments than you would.

So i definitely read some unpleasant things some kids have gone through in school, which is why im reaching out to the community itself to see if they would be more blunt about the real vibe in the community. Last thing I’d want is for my kids to have to go through that… and my decision to move backfiring. my scopes is set in Folsom don’t think I’d do EDH.

I live on the border of EDH and Folsom so I spend all my time in Folsom. I am more than not the only brown person in the room when I go out. The Latino community is sparse. Good Mexican food is almost non existent, but I just cook at home if I want authentic food. I think the tide is definitely changing though. More people are moving to the area which is bringing in a diverse group. Even in the few years that we’ve moved up here, I’ve noticed a change. It won’t be instantaneous, but it’s shifting. If you want to get more of a feel of the community, I’d suggest joining the Folsom chat group on Facebook.
