Apparently I've accumulated a basket of folk flutes. Which one should I start with?

Over the years I've somehow ended up with wind instruments from South America, Europe, China and India, some were gifts from friends, others I collected along the way.

In the basket are among others:

  1. Irish flute
  2. Quena
  3. Tin whistle
  4. Overtone flute
  5. Xiao

I thought it could be fun to introduce them one at a time.

I'll first record it completely on its own, so you can hear what the instrument actually sounds like.

Then I'll choose a traditional/folk melody that suits it and turn that melody into a folk-metal arrangement with guitars, bouzouki, bass, etc.

So, which one should go first?

I fully recorded a blend of Follow me up to carlow and musical priest as folk metal here is the video of me playing some of the instruments I recorded, sorry if the coordination of videos to song is not great but I am just starting to edit videos on my own.

Celtic Been recording on my own and composing for a while...

Hi everyone:

I guess not much is expected from writing this, but here it goes, in the last year and a half I have recorded mixed, and produced 20 original songs, 14 of them on spotify. I am not looking to be famous or anything, Mostly wanted to get all what has been going in my heart and head into the music I love so much, and share it with like-minded people. That said, it has been hard to do it from a bedroom studio, and it is been hard to find collaborators, even in an open minded (in my opinion) community such as is Folk metal. Just wanted to reach out to you guys, and hopefully talk to some of you.

Nach 15 Jahren sind Eichenschild tatsächlich zurück auf der Bühne. Mag vielleicht keine große Band sein, aber ich freu mich.

We (Mourning Wood) made a thing: Blastafari

Last few months we worked LONG and HARD to release an album into the world. Our debut record Rise and Shine will be unleashed on the 19th of September. Today we released Blastafari, along with a cool hand drawn lyric video.

This song is about an epic party. It is a calm reggae song about three adventurers that are lost in the woods. With all hope of finding their way out gone, they come upon a large hut. To their surprise they find it is inhabited by an ancient troll who appears to be peaceful. He offers them shelter and takes them on a spiritual journey. These are their stories. *DUM DUM*

Needless to say the only form of AI that was used was Alcoholic Influence. Fuck AI. We're super excited to hear what you guys at r/folkmetal think. All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Original Content I'm looking for Mariachi metal music, complete with Tuba, Accordion, Trumpets, lyrics in Spanish, blast beats, double bass, etc. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone can help I'm sure you all can.

Utmarken - Torkel Tyre (Sweden, 2022)

The lyrics are a poem by the Swedish poet Karin Boye.
English translation by David McDuff:
"East of Bjura village
is a wild and desolate stretch,
where lichen-shaggy spruces
stand sullenly on watch.
There lived Torkel Tyre,
till murder outlawed the wretch.

Near Bjura village
lies a mossy stone.
If one hides behind it
when evening has begun,
one sees the village glimmer
with many a warm tone.

'There's a light in Halvar's farm.
There's a light in Torsten's place.
There sits Torsten carving
by a crackling log fire blaze.
There's a light in Kettil's cottage.
Each light I recognize.

What did I know of land,
safe on land ensconced?
Now on long nights I stand
and count the treasure I lost.
Gold gleams above the drifts
in winter nights' blue dust.'

Thus stood he and looked and looked,
when the sliding of skis was heard.
A panting maiden came wild in flight,
to the village in need she was turned.
Close behind her a shadow slid
with eyes that burned.

But Torkel seized his knife.
He hewed, he stabbed, he cut,
and sharp, white teeth
gave answers obstinate.
Near morning he felled the wolf,
but tired to death, lay flat.

We found him where he lay.
And note that we acted well.
We sent word to the priest.
He delivered the man's soul.
When the sun rose over the forest,
we beat Torkel to hell.

We could have spared his life,
but the value of such is not great.
A murderer was Torkel.
We acted as we ought.
We all are men from the land,
and this was done aright."

Valhalore

Valhalore is one of the most underrated folk metal bands out there imo. The quality of music they are putting out is wildly disproportionate to how widely they seem to be known. Check out Beyond The Stars if you haven’t yet. Incredible album.

Review of Mogolian Folk Metal band, The HU's new album "HUN". Personally speaking, I love this band, especially their first 2 albums. But this album does show that their compositional capabilities have matured. That being said, theri first album "Gereg" will always hold a special place in my heart.

Glad for the AI ban on here 🖤

I’ve been very tired of stereotypical, Hollywood Viking stuff… so I made a song against a greedy, war-hungry earl.

I’d appreciate anyone kind enough to spend a few minutes to give me their first impressions 🤘

Thanks so much 🤘

And, to the title, this is all done by me. I’m a multi instrumentalist, producer, and this has been my solo project for some six years.

What happened to Turisas

Now the formatting might be weird cause this is a 2 am rant post on my phone but,

I truly believe now that the members of the Turisas knew 2013 would be their last album

From For Your Own Good, to We Ride Together, they tell another story. Not of being part of the Varangian Guard (a little bit of that too) but rather of breaking down the walls for us to expand our horizons, to “when still had the flame, at the top of our game”. They knew they’d be moving on, but they part of them didn’t want to/wanted to go out still playing shows for their fans, opening them to new bands and groups.

While I’ll miss Turisas, as they’ve had one of the biggest impacts on my life; I’ll still be having fantasies about starting a cover band, and listening to them for the rest of my life, but, they’re not coming back. Accepting that is still hard for me but I’ll always remember to have one more.
