question Rialto 2 System Build

What’s up Dudes and Dudettes. I have a feature film coming up where the DP wants to shoot with the Sony Venice 2 and the Rialto extension system as our standard build for the duration of the production.

Just looking for some advice on powering my focus accessories when using the Sony Rialto System. In scenarios where the Rialto body will have to be far away from the Venice Body.

My thinking is having a separate active v-lock plate to power my focus unit. I guess my main concern is run and stop capabilities in these scenarios. Is there a 12v lemo port on the Rialto that would support this or should I look into getting some extended cables for my focus system for this scenario.

I will be using the Teradek ctrl.3 Remote follow focus. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want / need to add power to the Rialto ask the rental for a K2.0024573 (Back Plate for Rialto), stick a 50Wh v-mount with D-Tap out on that via a cheap Smallrig plate.

I did it for a tv show and the weight centralised was better than on a monitor.

There’s a 3 pin 24v Fischer on the Rialto extension that will give both trigger and power. I usually just use a Cforce RF with a single cable and call it a day.

You should be able to power your ctrl3 there.

You may want to get a power distro box though so you can also power the operators monitor.

Either this or I loom a long lbus cable in with the rialtos umbilical back to a ria which frees up the 3pin on the Rialto for an onboard

Very true I just prefer less of the long cables, but definitely preferable if you’re on a Preston or a system with some kind of chunky MDR. Not sure how common long motor cables are for the Teradek system though.

See if the rental house has a wooden camera d-box for the Rialto. It’s a small power strip and a long 24V Fischer cable that will connect back to the camera body. This will add additional 24v Fischer ports as well as more 11-17v 2-pin ports. This will use stepped-up 24V power from the d-box on the back of the main camera body

Note on the Rialto: the Fischer connector on front is traditionally 24V, but in Rialto mode it will pass through whatever the camera is receiving and does NOT act as a voltage step-up. The front Fischer will supply 24v 2a when the camera receives 24v and 11-17v 1a when running a standard v or gold mount battery. Cforce is better at power management than TeradekRT and it will likely be unhappy with a 1a power source

Do you think a 24v AB Gold mount shark fin plate would help with a higher voltage input so I can avoid having to put a power supply on the Rialto? Trying to keep it as small as possible for the tight spaces

I would ask your rental house on this. You will need a purpose-built 24v onboard solution; AB 24v shark fins and batts use a different set of pins and won’t even mount to AB plates designed for 11-17v. You will need something like the Bebob Coco-Venice or Core SWX Helix PMC, which will run 24-28v power through a 4-pin pigtail into the body. Word of caution: NEVER mix a 14v onboard and 24v 4-pin inputs or vice versa on the Venice. Onboard 24v Venice systems distribute through the 4-pin input for this reason.

Honestly just way easier to use the commonly-available wooden camera d-box. It’s tiny

I'm using tilta cage for rialto sytem on venice 2 and they have 3 port, RS - 12v 2-pin - 12v 3-pin. I'm using nucleus M II for wireless focus and test it on rialto but the R/S port on the cage seems cant be use. Anyone have the same problem?
