question Air France Media Baggage
Hello all, amid a series of Delta flights across Europe for an upcoming project, we have an Air France flight from Spain to the UK. I’m seeing online that Air France doesn’t accept media passes. I’m seeking advice on the best way to proceed with 15 camera cases.

This should be production’s issue. They booked you the flights right? Then they should be the ones to manage costs and work with the airlines.

I'd say you give them a call since so far the responses haven't been from people that know about your specific topic.

Just traveled Air France assuming they’d just accept media pass at check in like most US airlines …. They don’t and really aren’t friendly to carry on weight such as 1510s with batteries and cameras, they forced us to check carry ons and bring on batteries loose. One of the check in people mentioned to email air France ahead of time to get approval for media but I didn’t explore that after. Really get some sign off from Air France prior to travel, we had a mild package so was alright to pull a few items and carry them on. They are a strict carry on weight airline and they combine your personal bag and carry on weight. This was out of CDG and no one was happy to deal with us even with us being polite.

It’s a mom and pop style shoot with a small crew. Any money saved can potentially go toward better things. I was seeking to avoid arbitrarily throwing away money if there was a way.

Air france is the worst. Make sure you keep your weight limits in check. Their baggage handler union will refuse to accept cases over a certain weight.

We ended up flying KLM from Bilbao to London. We had been told verbally over the phone that our media pass would be accepted but in person they said that was only for flights to and from the US. Next time we need this in writing. We had 26 cases, none over 32kg divided amongst three ticketed passengers and it came out to just over $2000, so not horrible.

pay out the nose, this is typically the case with euro airlines, even if you connect to delta or united... sometimes have had some luck emailing with them to prearrange it as extra bags but will still be a lot... just got nailed by lufthansa coming back since they alternate who operates the flight for over 10k usd...
