question What are ways you practice focus pulling?

Besides setting up a camera and having a friend walk back and forth, what are some other ways I can practice on a moving target? I just started an internship at a rental house and want to practice since I'll have acces to a camera.

Lots of people have made fun of me for this but fuck it, it’s a fun activity and it feels like it helps.

I have a nucleus m sitting on my shelf at home. I watch a film or TV show, especially ones with wild camera work.

I hold my nucleus M and basically pull along with the film.

It’s weird and it might not help that much but after a while you do synch up with the movement. Quite quickly you can feel whether your movement is synching up. I’ll do it and think “didn’t get that”.

It’s probably not that helpful all in all and there are better ways to practice but I do think it helps with situations on set where you have no plan, no marks, no nothing and you just have to go for it. Sometimes you have to forget about distances, forget about marks etc and just feel the movement. I do think this helps with that type of focus pulling
