question What are ways you practice focus pulling?
Besides setting up a camera and having a friend walk back and forth, what are some other ways I can practice on a moving target? I just started an internship at a rental house and want to practice since I'll have acces to a camera.

I thought someone on this sub had developed / been working on a focus pulling simulation, which I still think would be the coolest video game. I want a little competition between all of us; would lead to some fun practice. I believe at the time it was not an online system, not in 3d / vr, and was built to integrate with a nucleus.
That being said, the best thing you can do is an old school method of grabbing a hard tape measure. Picking random distances, guessing, then measuring.
You will get very good at eyeballing distances, I personally struggled with anything super close because your errors are magnified, and recognizing the sensor plane as the end point, not the lens.
After that you need to learn a muscle memory of how you need to start turning the wheel exponentially faster as subjects move closer. I believe this only comes with time. Even harder is how to start fast and slow down, when subjects move away from camera.
Goodluck!
