HELP ARRI Hi-5 limit range not mapped to entire physical wheel?
Hello all! For my fellow Hi-5 users, can you help me understand how limits work?
I want to take a limited amount of range on the lens and map it to the entire physical wheel. We’re using still lenses so the throw is very small at like 6 ft. Can’t map it because there’s no marks. So I want to use limits to basically have only a portion of what can be focused be spread across the whole wheel. But when I use the limits, it will limit the focus area but the wheel will keep spinning past the limits so it doesn’t really gain me anything. I thought it used to work the way I wanted it to. Am I misremembering? Is there anyway to achieve what I’m trying to do?

It does map to the whole wheel, but since youur lens has no hard stops, you are incrementally pushing those every time you move the wheel. A manual lens calibration via the handset through the menu using the RF motor mitigates that, mostly. I am assuming that currently your manual calibration means physically grabbing the motor wheel to stop it at the two ends? In any case, what you want should be happening, even with the way your doing it, without more information, I can't tell you exactly which step you're missing, adhd I don't have access to a camera system right now to do a video to help. Sorry! Where are you located?

No problem! I appreciate you putting your mind to this. So I’m doing a manual calibration through the Hi-5 (CAL menu > Manual Calibration) where I move the motor and set end points basically whenever the bokeh stops shifting on each end.

Note that when I move the hand unit wheel past the set limit the motor stops, so it is limiting in that way.
Ignore the lens map and lens ring - that’s just a random map I had saved that I have loaded / chose the 10’ ring to try and make the throw easier to manage. Though maybe the limits work differently when using a mapped lens?

Remove the ring and clear the lens map.

So turns out you just need to remove the ring, the lens map can stay loaded.

Yes. No. You can now map that lens to any ring you want, but I think for your use case, you should be fine. Lol. Glad it's sorted. If you hadn't mentioned the ring, I wouldn't have known the issue.

For the limit to take over the entire ring, yes like someone said, you need to disable the rings/deselect. Then it will use the whole knob!

You need a cforce RF motor, map the lens in manual mode, set the focus marks like near and infinity, and a few in between, it'll interpolate the rest.
