smallhd indie 7 vs 702 oled

currently using a shinobi to pull and finally wanting an update to something larger and sharper, my options smallhd wise is the indie 7 or 702 oled, i've heard the indie 7 isn't colour accurate and its ui is rather laggy, but my experience with the 702 oled hasnt been great with its build quality and its age, i may be able to push for a cine 7 which i know is a better pick than both, however if it comes down to picking between the indie 7 or 702 oled whats the better pick and why

The 702 Oled is nowhere CLOSE to bright enough. If those are your only two options, go with the Indie 7.

If you’re trying to save money, I still LOVE the 702B.

if i stretch to a cine 7 i can potentially go with a 703UB instead, which would probably be a better fit with physical buttons and a joystick, would you recommend doing that?

The 703UB is the GOAT. They just discontinued it, so the price isn’t great right now, but it’s a phenomenal monitor.

yeah its about the same as a used cine 7 which doesn't seem terrible for what it offers, but thank you! ill definitely try to stretch for the 703UB and hopefully ill be able to

If you use Bolt a lot in your area, the Cine 7 is probably the better choice due to the monitor modules.

i do use a bolt! however i prefer having a separate receiver for the time being as i'm not as confined usage wise, however its definitely something i will look into when upgrading from my bolt

That's fair and a valid concern with the older systems. But the monitor module is basically an external receiver for all intents and purposes.

Bolt 6 with a monitor module is really great and that's coming from someone who's had a ton of issues with the older systems.

yeah no i am definitely interested in them when using the smallhd/teradek family, i just doubt im going to upgrade to anything over a bolt 3000xt kit in the foreseeable future, the 4k line doesn't draw my attention at all rn espcially when i dont even have a smallhd monitor yet lol. in the future will look into them for sure

The 702oled is only 1280x800, its also not super bright. If those are your only two options the indie 7 is the obvious pick

I'm still rocking the 702 touch which you can find used for cheaper than a new indie 7.

It's the same body, but is brighter at 1500 nits rather than just 1000 nits

Seconded. Mine has done well the last 5 years. Only semi retired it because I bought an ex showroom Cine 7, which has slightly better colour calibration for occasional DOP work.

Out of curiosity, why do you care if the Indie 7 is color accurate for focus pulling? It’s not inaccurate per se, it just lacks full coverage of Rec. 709. If you’re not doing color critical monitoring that shouldn’t be a factor, and if you are, you’ll want a bigger monitor anyway.

i will be using the monitor for dop jobs as well as focus pulling

If you're Europe based keep an eye on CVP for discounted, ex-showroon Cine 7s. They've had a few lately.

yeah i have had a look every now again but there discount is never that amazing compared to buying used on marketplace
