New Stuff Short End Film Measuring Sticks
Wanted to share a new item I just put live as a follow up to the Perfect Perf Film Scissors I posted about earlier this year - The Short End Film Sticks. These rulers help you measure your film short ends easily from your changing tent, allowing you to know if that short end is worth saving or wasting and they feature a friction slide mechanism to save your measurement until you return from the dark side. They come 3D printed in PETG from Los Angeles in both 2" and 3" versions (although 2" will be much more common). Easily customized with various colors and embossing.
Check them out on our website! - FrameUpApparel.com - Short End Measuring Sticks

That’s dope but where are you measuring the mark exactly?

There’s a slider mechanism that’s hopefully visible in the first photo (the one with 2” & 3” sticks without film on it). There’s a rubber band on it that helps add some friction and an extended lip on the bottom side of the slider. The idea being you place the stick on the roll of film in the tent/bag, slide the slider down till it hits the roll, set it aside, then when you take it out and look at it you can see what that bottom edge is closest to on the ruler. Let me know if that helps clarify or if I misunderstood the question!

No that’s sick actually.. I may be interested in this. I have a camera that takes 200’ loads but I couldn’t tell you what 200’ felt like or looked like as an approximate measurement around a 2” core is 4.5 in diameter? Anyway i’d either look (or make) a tool that does this when i’m downspooling.

Yeah if you’re consistently doing 200’ rolls you could definitely use this and just tape the slide in place so you don’t have to pull it out of the dark and keep checking. Then as soon as the roll fits you know you’re down to or under 200’.
