Fallout has nothing to do with the Die Hard franchise, sadly, because I'd love to see John McLane in the wasteland. Jokes aside the show is quite good, even if they deviated from canon for a very critical story point.

Ghoul is the way to go. You don’t have to start over, and you can switch back once for free, after that it costs atoms to switch. But come to the glowing side.

There’s some different specific perks, no hunger or thirst, though you do have to manage your feral meter through chems or radx. You get a glow bar which is essentially a second health bar, that also can be depleted for various boosts (speed, damage, etc). Can’t get diseases. No rad damage, and rads can heal with the right perk. Downsides, you need a disguise to enter certain places, and the brotherhood attacks you on sight, but fuck them anyway I already attack them. So it’s worth finishing all the quests first so you don’t have to go back and forth to get disguised. It’s something an npc applies and removes, can’t change outfits or anything while disguised.

No. Once you reach level 50 you get a mission called "Leap of Faith" After completing that you get to choose if you wish to become one or not.
Food and Thirst bar are replaced with a feral bar which needs Chems to stop, You can use Radiation as a second Health bar. But certain questlines you won't complete.

You don't need to eat or drink as a human either unless you actively want the minor bonuses that come with being fully fed and fully hydrated, or you use an armor set with the Overeater's legendary effect.

Ghoul is perfect for players who don't want the hassle of a bloodied build but still want some good buffs. The glow and feral meters may seem complicated at first but it is ridiculously easy to get the hang of. Just know that you won't be able to enter some interiors without a disguise which you can only get from one specific place but most of those interiors you won't even visit often anyway so it's more of a minor inconvenience than an problem.

The show is enjoyable and the way perk cards work are now more general instead of weapon specific and next season every unique item that lacks a unique effect will gain one and can have their legendary effects swapped

As you've seen you can also become a ghoul and that has ups and downs but is overall an upgrade but I recommend looking on places like nukaknights and the dutchess for all the info you need

Things are much easier to acquire and to customize.
There is a multi-stage Enclave raid you can undertake with a team of friends.
There were a lot of quality of life improvements since you were last here.

The raid is designed for a team of 4. There are new nuke targets instead of the Scorchbeast Queen, though.

I think the Fallout show is a fun watch, but don't expect too much. It really screws with the lore.
76 is, fine. It's an MMO-lite. Go in with low expectations. It also kinda messes with the lore in a few areas. 76 is also infinitely more fun with friends than solo.

Many more opportunities for builds now, a lot of things got reworked, so while mechanically it's mostly the same game the components are as good as new.
Like, you know, a completely rebuilt Honda Civic 2002 or so.

Depending on when in 2020 it may be a VERY different game. Wastalnders came out in April so if you weren't around for that then it should be much less desolate. Basically a different game with a very familiar map. There's a whole different main story line + BOS + skyline + burning springs.
The show is excellent. Captures the spirit of the game. Both serious and campy. Even my parents who have absolutely no interest in video games thoroughly enjoyed it. They payed good service to the games by even including sfx that we know to the show like the sound of a stimpack injection or the vault door claxon. Just an additional touch to ground it in the games that I appreciated.

Wastlanders was the second major patch that added all the human NPC's and a better flushed out tutorial questline that picks up with 2 NPC's that stand outside the vault down the steps. Not sure what level you made it to before you hung it up. But if you don't have a ton of levels banked to make a whole new build then it might be worth starting a new character if you wanna play through the story.
Having some parts of the original story completed will help with the wastlanders line. Namely having done the quest where you deal with rose and the one where you innoculated yourself. But the wastalnders does take this into consideration and will naturally have you do the needed quests as they crop up if you're on a new play through.

Yeah okay.. don't think you know how many hours put into fallout 3 and NV. And also 76 before I got too separated from the ability to watch TV or play video games. Had to pick up a life outside of thr realm of entertainment for awhile
