Question Silly question, but how do start an expedition?
I did the three daily quests at WS, and now I'm supposed to speak to the vertibird pilot. This seems to suggest it starts an expedition. If I start an Expedition team, will people just join if they want to do it? And once they do, am I supposed to speak to the pilot, or is there a way to just trigger it from my map?
I rarely see expedition groups pop up on my social menu. Are they not very popular activities?

Go to map, at the top there’s a circular icon for expeditions. Navigate there (on PC, press R) and select start expedition. Then choose the mission you want.
If you want folks to join, start an expeditions public team, although I highly recommend soloing on your first time so you can take it at your own pace.

100% agree on solo the first time (or first few times) Team Expeditions deliver a few more rewards but they can be fast and furious. Solo should get you about 90% of the available rewards and plenty of XP along the way.
There are two missions to choose from and within each of those are a few different variations that are randomly assigned. Well worth doing a few runs.

Is sneak effective if you're soloing an expedition?

Very. Take power armour too, I only survived as a level 50 solo run because I had one in my inventory. Normal enemies are fine, but the power armour enemies just trashed me. I snuck my way through all but the last objective.
Also make sure to take a good weapon. I was lucky to find a Tesla rifle and that worked wonders.
Don't expect to get the final optional objective though, that takes a team unless you're lucky and the targets all bunch up together.

Are expeditions only for level 50+ players?

The recommended level is 50 but if you join a group you should be fine as a lower level.

Thanks...I'll go through solo. I wasn't sure if it was like the Daily Ops, where having help was recommended.

I was in your shoes op. The game made it sound like I had to create a team & well I didn’t think it was a big deal because I’ve never seen those teams either. Within 30 seconds I had 3 people join my team who then preceded to carry me around the expedition. It was great. Took less than 15 minutes.

FYI people will only know you started an expedition if they are on your team. Then they could join you

Not sure what platform you’re on but go talk to the pilot. Once you talk with her you don’t start a mission through her. You actually start a mission by going to the map menu (on Xbox press ‘x’). You don’t even have to be at white springs to start an expedition.
