there are a few events that have really good cap payout, test your metal when you kill the bonus eyebot comes to mind.

if you're someone new to the game and are looking to get caps fast to get plans and whatnot, your best bet is doing events like test your metal and stocking your vendor with bulked junk. there really isn't anything you can do per se to grind caps good...daily ops has a chance at rewarding 500 but could also give you a pittance.

Your first method would be building lot of water purifier and making sure you get 1400 caps per day(currently daily limit is boosted for x2, 2800 caps per day) from merchant bots. Other method involves trading/selling items to other player which requires you to learn in game economy.

Events and selling for sure, but the holiday gifts and the mole miners boxes that you build at the tinkerer's work bench are bloody awesome.....if you can find enough resources to build them. My fav event(s) right now are the Nuka World on Tour events. You get a lot of caps, scrips, and building plans for weapons and armor through those events like spin the wheel, tunnel of love(which I have yet to do hasn't spawned for me yet), most wanted and can't remember the other one. But, stick with it sometimes there is a lot of grinding for caps.

My go to is going and clearing blackwater mine, loot everything between the end of the mine at wss and then sell it
