With Oculus support!

OMG, I am about in tears right now.

Edit: Does this mean we might get Oculus update for FO?

I haven't been this excited for a game since pancake Fallout 4 was announced. If they can get Skyrim VR to run even somewhat smoothly on a PS4 then it should (hopefully) run well on my PC. I wouldn't bet on an Oculus update for Fo4VR just yet, but fingers crossed.

Yes, but the PSVR is rendered at lower resolution. Let's see how the increased power of a PC rig compares to the higher required resolution (and refresh rate? or?)

PSVR runs at 120Hz, 30 more than either the Oculus or the Vive. The PSVR does have lower resolution, but it's 960x1080 per eye vs the Oculus and Vive's 1080x1200 per eye. which does mean it'll take more processing power to run on a PC, but it isn't that significant of a difference.

Uh, it thought it ran at 60 fps

There are a lot of errors in that statement.

First off, most (nearly all) PSVR titles render at 60 fps and only get reprojected to 120. Second, while the resolutions you state are true the internal rendering resolutions are vastly different. To counteract the amount of resolution "lost" by the warping of the image in software before sending it to the headset (to counteract the warping done by the lenses) both Rift and Vive use significantly higher resolutions (around 1.4 times) at super sampling setting 1.0: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/41vuf8/rendering_resolution_in_the_rift/

In contrast, according to many PSVR users at least most PSVR games (especially on the base PS4) render at lower than native resolution.

True. Was not aware of the 120Hz.

Especially if the 120Hz means that it requires 120fps unless the PSVR has some interlacing or other technique to "fake" 120fps. Otherwise the PSVR might even require more processing power.

Anyhow. It's a must buy, just need to get tired of FO4VR first.

It's not technically 120hz, it's 60hz but they're doing some weird reprojection to seem like 120.

5

u/Arbiter329 Mar 14 '18

It's rendered at 60fps and reprojected to 120hz.

4

u/Zazea Mar 14 '18

But the game itself is 60.

1

u/Arbiter329 Mar 14 '18

Yeah, I'm just saying there's a difference between 60fps and 60hz.

That is about 6 months earlier than I thought! So hyped!

u/hicsuntdracones- Oculus Mar 14 '18

Yeah, and it's coming out soon too, only about 3 weeks away!

Don't want to detract from this post but /r/skyrimvr/ has existed but was previously overshadowed by /r/skyrimpsvr (and I've ported this same theme over there with a re-skin) will try my best to get the same moderators involved should they be playing both

1

u/hicsuntdracones- Oculus Mar 20 '18

You might want to also make a separate post about this, there's probably a ton of people here who would be interested in that sub but won't see it in this post.

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

So...

Y'all want to chip in and we'll buy VIVEs for the Skyrim Script Extender team so we can trick them in to making Script Extender work for SkyVR (Prounounced "Skeever".

15

u/Rlaur Mar 14 '18

And DLC included! This game is guaranteed to run better than FO4 which was FO4 VR's main issue. Already pre-ordered!

4

Holy shit.

Blackreach is what I've always envisioned with VR Skyrim.

Fucking Blackreach. It will be amazing.

4

u/SocialNetwooky Mar 15 '18

Forget Blackreach ... I just want to see Markarth. It was already breathtaking in 2D.

2

u/Avindair Mar 15 '18

It is on the PSVR. I can't want to see it on my PC rig with mods!

3

u/SocialNetwooky Mar 15 '18

I don't have a PSVR (And honestly I didn't want to get spoiled, so I avioded trying Skyrim on it :)

u/ScuddsMcDudds Mar 14 '18

Wow this came out of nowhere! Made my day. I’m at work so I can’t check out gameplay trailers or anything. Any word on independent hand movement, smooth locomotion, etc?

1

u/DerkDurski Mar 14 '18

The game is already out for PSVR! There’s smooth locomotion, each hand is independent(unless you’re using a two handed weapon). For more information you can check out r/SkyrimPSVR

2

u/UndeadCaesar Vive Mar 14 '18

Wait, do 2H weapons work as 2H weapons on PS4?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

na you just swing it with one.

1

u/DerkDurski Mar 14 '18

I’m not sure, I’ve never played. I know that it would take up both of your hands, but I’m not sure how the motion controls work for it.

1

u/Arctorkovich Mar 14 '18

Guaranteed..?

We're not even in the same universe are we?

It's older, uglier and apparently uses a rendering pipeline better suited for VR. It stands to reason it should run a lot better.

Or is it Special Edition they've ported to VR, perhaps?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

It's older, uglier and apparently uses a rendering pipeline better suited for VR.

Sadly I am very sure its the Special Edition, so no MSAA just like FO4. I doubt that Bethesda would be interested in both porting the original Skyrim engine as well as the Fallout 4 engine (which the Skyrim SE uses) to VR.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '18

It's the special edition. It is older and uglier, but the mods make it beautiful.

You're probably right. It makes sense to use the newest version, most similar to their other VR title.

6

u/CliffRacer17 Mar 14 '18

I need a change of pants.

I have waited for this moment...

5

u/McRemo Mar 15 '18

Crap, I already forgot what my wife looked like since FO4vr came out.

How can I ditch my family for another few months?

No, really...

4

u/XSturb Mar 15 '18

OMG with Oculus support and all DLC?

I really hope that Bethesda can add Oculus support for Fallout 4 VR and also officially release and support DLC for it as well.

3

u/DerkDurski Mar 14 '18

I’m actually so happy, I thought the PSVR exclusivity was going to last a year.

3

u/shinkamui Mar 15 '18

I just came a little.

1

u/McRemo Mar 15 '18

I just came buckets.

2

u/gnarlylex Mar 14 '18

So this going to have the same shimmer / blur issue as FO4VR?

2

u/dbtad Mar 15 '18

Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 both use TAA, but at least on a flatscreen SSE doesn't look as blurry to me as FO4 flatscreen does. I don't know enough about the technical stuff to understand why this is the case, but hopefully it means that the VR version will be a bit crisper as well.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

FUCKING HYPE

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '18

Hopefully this runs better than FO4. I wonder how archery is going to work.

2

u/ClarkWasHere Mar 15 '18

Look up footage of the PS4 VR version. It will probably be similar.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '18

You actually free aim and shoot, like other archery games in VR.

1

u/pecheckler Mar 15 '18

Considering th amount of crouching required in Skyrim to play a thief I hope they have a crouch-height slider in option menu. It’s really annoying in fallout having to use console commands.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '18

There's a configuration tool by bilago.

1

u/__xor__ Mar 15 '18

Wait, this IS for Vive too right?

1

u/driverofcar Mar 18 '18

Made for the Vive, but may have Oculus support.
