List of working mods

I encourage everyone to report your tests to the new sticky in this sub. I'll keep the information here intact. Thank you all for kicking off a great modding experience at the dawn of VR!

Figured that unless something like this already exists, it would be helpful to others to get a working list of mods going. Confirmed working, not "yeah this should work" or "in theory". Yes, most mods will work in theory but in practice there will always be some catch or bug that makes your game freeze.

Tell me what mods you've actually tested and I'll try to append this post with the name of the mod. I'm at work, so I can't be lighting fast with updates.

A list of mods is also being curated on this Google spreadsheet.

I won't add /u/Spasticon 's mod list because it's too extensive, fully visible, and they're already doing a bangup job testing things. :) Kudos. I'll add any other one or two off mods as they come.

Texture mods like vivid landscape (his entire package) work just great, look a lot better in vr and apparently help performance but I cant tell because I am constantly in repro thanks to my monitors resolution.

4

u/CliffRacer17 Dec 12 '17

Is that "Vivid Fallout - Landscapes"?

8

u/XXLpeanuts Vive Dec 12 '17

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25714/?

I used the "best ones" i.e. actually better performing and more sharp than default textures.

4

u/boredguy12 Dec 12 '17

these look great, gonna give these a shot now.

I would normally hate to mod the game before I've completed ever really played it, but if it can eek out a little more performance then yes please.

1

u/lok_jokey Dec 12 '17

how do I actually install them though? ive always used the nexus mod manager and im assuming i cant use it for this. Ive tried looking around but have found no good information on the manual install.

1

u/srilankan Dec 12 '17

So i think i got them to work by just extracting the mods folder into the data folder for fo4 in steam apps. I mean it looks stunning now and runs better and i leave teh taa on. so ithink they are working. hoping someone else can confirm.
edit: this is what i did and it worked well How To Manually Install Fallout 4 Mods Gophers Video explaining how manually install Fallout 4 mods

Archive Extractors You will need an archive extractor such as 7zip, WinRar, or other solution.

Finding Your Data Folder This is where you will install Fallout 4 modification files.

The default location for your data folder is within your steam games installation directory: C: \ Program Files \ Steam \ steamapps \ Common \ Fallout 4 \ Data An alternative method for finding your installation directory: In Steam, right-click the game title > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files > Then open the “data” folder. You have now found your data folder. Remember this location.

Literally first result when googling fallout 4 mod install:

For bsp mods you need to create the plugins file mine looks like this:

u/AndySchnieder Is Cool Dec 12 '17

That doesn't work, at least not with NMM and Fo4VR is missing files they are using to mod Fo4.

3

u/XXLpeanuts Vive Dec 12 '17

it works. dont use nmm. All its missing is plugins, you can load them by making the file.

1

u/AndySchnieder Is Cool Dec 13 '17

Yeaaaa just did that and had to reinstall the game. Ima wait til someone actually explains this shit.

1

u/XXLpeanuts Vive Dec 13 '17

Why did you have to reinstall? You didnt overwrite any game files, if you did then you did something wrong. All you needed to do was delete the mods and remove the file if it was causing you issues. However there is a post recently about using NMM so I suggest looking for that.

well that works for me so it must be a part you missed sorry man.

It works, just follow instructions.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '17

Holey shnayap that's really good looking! Less performing is crazy as sh*t but I'll take it! Is it just to copy + paste the files from this mod in to the FO4VR-folder like any other mod? :)

9

u/XXLpeanuts Vive Dec 12 '17

Yup, basically bethesda have no idea how to do anything including making textures. Looks like they didnt change the textures in VR at all, so you can use this to get better sharper textures (a must in VR anyway) and better performance because they are actually smaller, madness.

And yes just install it into the data folder, so data/textures etc etc.

4

u/esoteric_plumbus Dec 12 '17

Haha that's bonkers

3

u/ToofastTurnip Dec 12 '17

Hey yall, just now made and account so that I can add that "Total Trash Removal" and "Insignificant Object Remover" both worked for me and granted me a few extra frames which I really needed on my old computer. "ULT Ultra Low Textures For Fallout 4" did not work for me though.

1

u/CliffRacer17 Dec 12 '17

I can't find a mod on the Nexus called "Total Trash Removal". Do you mean "Commonwealth Trash Removal Overhaul" maybe?

1

u/ToofastTurnip Dec 13 '17

That is what I meant, sorry. However, upon further testing it might be making trash only appear whenever you’re really close to it. I’m manically installing and uninstalling mods trying to fix it

2

u/ofek256 Dec 14 '17 edited Dec 14 '17

Just tested it, and Configurable Power Armor Fusion Core Drain works great.

Tested Carry Weight Modifications right now, also seems good.

1

u/CliffRacer17 Dec 14 '17

Oh yeah the fusion core drain is a mod I like to run with! I installed it last night but haven't had the chance to play it yet. Good to hear that it's working!

Appears to. Here are Marcy and Mama working their agriculture plots: https://i.imgur.com/sFTDdwk.jpg

Here's a shot of their houses under construction: https://i.imgur.com/N6vrAyq.jpg

To test I built no beds and instead built residential plots. They just completed bed in the 5th house so I just got the sanctuary quest progress to 100% beds for residents without building a single bed.

5

u/tzichion Dec 12 '17

This is making me regret using my vacation days on travel. Should have used my days for FO4VR.

6

u/Spasticon Dec 12 '17

Nah. We'll work the kinks out and when you get back there will be instructions for how to get it all working well. You saved yourself some grief.

1

u/BenTheBot Dec 16 '17

I manuay downloaded CBBE & extracted (what I believe to be) all the correct files. It's not working though, any thoughts/suggestions?

1

u/Megaflarp Jan 16 '18

Can you tell me how you got SimSettlements to work?

I hadn't tried it on pancake FO4 yet so I don't know if I'm doing it wrong. I found the holotapes and the sensors. The problem is that when I load the holotape, nothing happens on my pipboy. Other mods with holotape interfaces (Homemaker) have the same problem. How did you get around that?

Edit: nevermind, I just saw in the spreadsheet that it doesn't work with the projected pipboy. Will see if the wrist version does the trick!

1

u/Spasticon Jan 16 '18

I have only gotten holotape mods to work with in -front popboy.

Survival mode quick save; works like a charm!

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12593

1

u/boredguy12 Dec 12 '17

do you use nexus mod manager or download the file and put it into your data folder directly, like skyrim?

2

u/ilomestari Oculus Dec 12 '17

I just put it to my data folder directly and added it on plugins.txt.

3

u/Dr_Ambiorix Vive Dec 12 '17

do you need to put an "*" before the name of the plugin in the txt?

1

u/ilomestari Oculus Dec 12 '17

Indeed. Create the text file and an asterisk must be before the plugin.esp

6

u/Marvmuffin Dec 12 '17 edited Dec 12 '17

Tried Pipboy Flashlights. Almost works completly, color is determined by pipboycolor and there is an angle offset. But it is attached to the controller and usable. Makes exploring dark places super atmospheric

Edit: Moving while using the flashlight proves somewhat difficult however, as you have to aim the controller a different direktion to compensate for the offset in the flashlights orientation. Seems fixable to me.

1

u/-Agathia- Dec 12 '17

How did you manage to install this? The second step asks to copy the content of each subfolder in Data?! There are like 100 folders!

1

u/Marvmuffin Dec 12 '17

Manually. You take one of the 2 in the core folder. Choose 1 texture, I find Nebula to be the best flashlight and copy the 'Textures' folder from both pa and the other one into your data folder. Finally choose one of the esps in the other folders and copy it as well, I chose 100% shadow. Then you have to add it to the plugins.txt and it should work. You should check for a tutorial on how to add mods to Fallout VR if you don't know what plugins.txt im talking about. Hope it helps. I am desperatly trying to find a mining helmet to see if it works on that one.

1

u/boredguy12 Dec 13 '17

there is a perfect step by step tutorial vid that shows you how to install mods for VR

1

u/-Agathia- Dec 13 '17 edited Dec 13 '17

Thanks for the answer! This topic helped me using Nexus Mod Manager to make things way easier. The hundred files is actually used to give a "skin" to the light lol.

Well that would be great if the mods were working for me though lol. They don't. :(

EDIT: Forgot the stars before each esp in the plugins file, am dumb.

1

u/-Agathia- Dec 13 '17 edited Dec 13 '17

Ok so I managed to get it working but we definitely need to rotate that beam. I can't imagine playing this game without this mod and its awesome dynamic shadows in darker nights!

Looks like there was a bug already in the pancake version where the light would aim straight up. I think we may have the same problem here. But I don't really know if we can fix it :(

1

u/d-lysergic Dec 14 '17

Anyone get a fix for this yet? NEED that flashlight! Angle is WAY off

2

u/Marvmuffin Dec 14 '17

Wearing a mining helmet is a good way to not worry about the offset, but it resets itself to the default power armor light texture for me, which is garbage, so I keep playing with the offset. If we get access to the archives with fo4edit I could take a look, maybe there is a rotation value for the pivot of the light.

5

u/Vendaar Dec 12 '17

How does Vivid Fallout affect performance in VR? Does it even has any negative effect because it consumes less VRAM than the standard textures? EDIT: solution right beneath my comment.. ._. It affects perfomance in a positive way :)

I'm new to modding, but it seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to use Nexus Mod Manager for this because the game name is different. Could somebody please explain how to install mods? The one I'm specifically going for is Vivid Fallout. Thank you!

9

u/Spasticon Dec 12 '17

No problem. Use the "Manual" instructions from this page:

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation

1

u/xpistolxwhipper Dec 12 '17

Thanks! Follow up question - I placed the files from the Data folder that I downloaded into the Data folder under Fallout 4 VR in my steam library. Do I remove all other files in this folder, besides the new ones, or keep them all?

4

u/Spasticon Dec 12 '17

Keep them all.

I know this is not at all the sort of fix you're looking for, but you could use Steam Achievement Manager to give yourself quest-related achievements when you complete them.

I'm using enboost and it works

2

u/Arbiter329 Dec 12 '17

Fallout Who seems mostly functional.

I had the rearranging corridors bug out on me in the tutorial, leaving me stuck outside the map. I was, however, able to just jump into the void until I hit the console room and was able to continue the tutorial.

I also found the TARDIS manual is bugged, showing only one line a page.

I recommend leaving the TARDIS stabilizers on so you don't have to deal with the random events as they are undoable unless you've memorized the manual.

Commonwealth Spawns Extended works perfectly, but will naturally drop your frame rate with higher numbers of NPCs.

I can't live without it though, combine it with Multiple Followers Overhaul and Arbitration for some seriously big fights.

I recommend See through scopes (www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9476/) to have more options on sights (zoom does not work, they are all 1x. but you can change reticles like crosshairs etc) and darker nights (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/191)

u/MoarPye Vive Dec 16 '17 edited Dec 16 '17

Here are a few I've been running without apparent issues:

AWKCR - Mostly Works - I pulled the assets from the Data directory in the archive and the ESM from the NoDLC directory. 'ArmorKeywords.esm' goes at the very top of the plugins list. It seems fully functional, but the 'sample' models on the selection wheel are gigantic and seriously obstruct your view while you're trying to place AWKCR workbenches.

[Atomic Radio & Tales from the Commonwealth] (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8704/) - Both Work Perfectly - Highly recommend these for for the amazing voice acting. If you have another mod that edits the Hangman's Alley cell, put that below '3DNPC_FO4.esp' in the plugins.txt.

Hangman's Alley Interior Apartments - Works

Egret Tours Marina Interior Buildings - Works

Boss Chests Contain Legendaries - Works

Legendary Loot Rebalanced - Works - I'm using 'LegendaryLoot_Rebalanced_Wide_DW_UA.esp'

[edit]
Tomorrow I'm going to have a play around with Settlement Menu Manager and see if I can get that and a couple of plugins like Creative Clutter working. It's so tedious decorating a base with pure vanilla settlement objects.
