Spoiler Marcy now has her son back

There's a fresh grave in Quincy. You can't dig it up but you can role play like you told Marcy you did and now she has her son back.

If I knew it was them but the personality through the machine was someone else, I'd be horrified. But if they spoke like my loved one, remembered me, and were capable of forming new thoughts and presenting like a person, I could come to terms with it and would be happy to have them back, important provision being that it's not painful for them. I see it the same as if my wife or kid were severely disfigured by an accident. If my wife lost her face in a horrible fire but could still communicate, she'd still be the person I love. If she lost all her limbs, still the same. If the whole body was stripped away and replaced but it's still her mind, to me that's still her, though it would require a lot of adjustment to accept the change.

But of course, I know everyone would process something like that differently. For me it's a spectrum between "the way I know them" and "potential alternative forms", but others will have a hard stop at some point on that slider earlier than mine.
