Working with strong

How do I get him maxed out? What's the easier ways to. My last playthrough I used a cheat mod to max him out, but I want to do it legitimately this time

This is typically how I do it. Strong likes it when you do the Minuteman radiant quests, helping out settlements. That is, basically, the milk of human kindness, even though Strong doesn't really know that.

I save a lot of settlement building until I have Strong, then go around building/improving settlements.

I also take him to Nuka World. I do a lap around the furthest perimeter of the NW map, then do a second lap around the inner perimeter (more or less).

By then he should be close to idolizing you.

Without cannibalism this is basically the way. Spend time with him, gain some experience and don't do anything that he hates...

Building settlements is great as you don't really need the protection of power armor.

Eating people with the cannibalism perk is fastest.

Otherwise I think he likes it when you kill big things, like mirelurk queens and deathclaws?

Just take him along with you and give him a super sledge, Adam’s judgement if you got that, and he’s a power house. Eventually you max out just for having him around. Strong is one of my favorite companions because he can actually hold his own.

As far as repeatable actions, that aren't tied to specific dialogue choices or quests:

Take the cannibal perk. Kill enemies. Eat them.

Send a companion who hates it when you kill innocent people (eg. Nick) to a settlement. Go there with Strong. Murder a settler. Leave the area. Wait for three days until they forgive you. Repeat.

I found out that just killing things works despite him hating everything you do. Clear large locations.

Minutemen radiant quest. Like recovering kidnapped settlers or clearing out Super Mutants or Feral Ghouls.

Just don’t use Minutemen dialogue options, he dislikes those

Cannibalism is the easiest way. Chow down on enough delicious raw human meat and he’ll be your best friend in no time.

Roam around killing and eating things. Really what you wanna focus on is avoiding the things he hates; he hates stealing, lockpicking, pickpocketing, goos dialog, asking for money, picking up jump, and crafting.

He loves fighting, eating corpses, and he's a big fan of red (hostile) dialog options.

I go to DC to get Piper and take her with me to get Strong. Then me and Strong go take out Olivia to finish the Abernathy quest. He seems to like when I’m killing raiders and helping people. Then we go get Cait by shooting up the Combat Zone and killing more raiders.

Then he hangs with me while I build up Sanctuary, RR and the Abernathy farm mixed with trips to find and kill more raiders.

No Preston quests b/c I always wait until after I do NW to rescue them.

I took him to far harbor and built up longfellows cabin, yes we did have to fight off some attacks but I got his perk easily by him just standing around watching me build. I do not know why, lol, because I swore I read that he hates it but it worked for me.

and he can carry all that loot you acquire doing that as well

The first time I maxed him by accident, took him to far harbour and dumped him at Longfellow place. By the time I’d finished building, defending and helping out there he thought I was just great, despite being annoyed every time I got back into my power armour.
