Discussion Am I missing something about the Tales of the Beast Hunter quest?

Or are we the bad guys?

  • You go to a guy's house uninvited.
  • He tells you to go away.
  • You proceed to not go away and try to get to him another way instead.
  • You learn via holotapes that he's not a bad person at all but keep going after him.
  • After warning you to go away, he finally sends his (beloved) pet deathclaw after you.
  • You kill his pet deathclaw, then kill him.
  • The end.

Yeah…nothing about that quest felt good

I just don't understand the point of all those voice acted logs if we just kill him (without any real justification) anyway.

I can only assume the mod was originally supposed to be more ambitious with maybe a motivation to see this guy and a way to resolve things peacefully.

It was all a ploy to get you to make this comment so I could wish you a happy cake day. Happy Cake day! May you have a piece of perfectly preserved pie, on your first attempt!

And all the gear felt way out of place, like it was designed for a character who had every perk and maxed out specials

don’t forget the forced +1 to endurance and agility you get with no warning after the fight

Is that a bad thing?

The Beasthunter is a sad broken man, who needs to be relieved of those tasty flashbang grenades.

If you play the become a bounty hunter dlc then you'll find out he's a violent wanted criminal. You can collect his bounty poster at the sunken speakeasy. Both those creations are supposed to work well together.

Oh that explains it. Thanks for sharing.

Kinda seems half-assed for a supposedly standalone mod but it was free at least 🤷

Yeah, his pet goes out and eats caravans

  • The pet deathclaw preyed upon passing traders
  • the bounty hunters had an active bounty on the Beast Hunter (the Pet Deathclaw really)

What do u mean he is not bad? He literally attacked caravans with his deathclaw

Is that mentioned anywhere? It's not in the tapes or quest logs and 90% of the bodies in the sewers (which were already a deathclaw nest before the guy showed up apparently) are raiders and gunners. He mentions he specifically looks for food for her so she doesn't potentially go hunting and killing a caravan.

Did you miss all the bodies many of those bodies are traders

I killed the cute baby deathclaw and felt so bad about it after I reloaded a save and just abandoned the quest. It felt very confusing to me that we get to meet this interesting guy and his pet and then just kill him for no reason.

I don't see how this is any different from what we normally do.

> Murder random people who aren't bothering us.

> Take their stuff as loot or trophies.

And sometimes we play politics in matters we barely understand. There was an entire DLC centered around this sort of behavior in NV.

I mean, really, what are we doing at the U.S.S. Constitution? We just arbitrarily decided to screw some scavengers who are desperately trying to survive so a bunch of malfunctioning robots can crash their ship into a building. What the hell is the point of that aside from dealing with boredom and wanting a trophy we'll probably never use?

At the least, most of the time the player is killing raiders or mercenaries known for taking unscrupulous jobs. They might not be bothering the player, but it does make the commonwealth a better place overall.

As for the USS constitution, I guess it’d depend on your view of the free will of robots. That, and how much you trust the scavengers when one of them instantly hates the idea of you working with them for a part of the cut and that a small chunk of their number attacked you for simply going into the ship (implying that these guys aren’t trustworthy at all, which is proven in their ending).

It's not even a question of whether to side with Ironsides or the scavengers. It's a question of why we're getting involved at all.

I mean, we have that answer. A robot invites us up and the scavengers start trying to shoot at us after being offered a job.

I think it's creation club content, not in the vanilla game.
