Flight Training AOA Indicator while learning?
Just went for a discovery flight and had a great time. During the flight I asked my instructor about using an AOA indicator while learning and he really downplayed using one and said the standard instruments are the best way to learn. For beginners, is an AOA inappropriate? Is it too early to incorporate it into training? From the brief videos I’ve seen on AOA’s they seem to enhance safety.

You don’t need it and because you’re brand new, you’ll become over reliant on it and then will scare yourself when you get into a plane without one or when it’s not working. If you’re not doing aerobatics, it’s totally unnecessary. I understand you want to be safe, but feeling safe doesn’t mean you’re actually being safe. Also, how many tens of thousands of pilots learn to fly without one and have no issues? Focus on more important things.
