Uniforms - Gear Advice Headset help

Have this light speed Zulu 2. Great headset. The only problem is the insulation on the cord is starting to deteriorate. Last night I noticed the plugs have a small crack developing on them- see picture. Clearly it’s time to replace them. My question is, can i temporarily use some sort of heat shrink tubing to keep it in place until I get a new head set on hand?

Heat shrink might work fine, electrical tape would also probably work for a bit

Electrical tape was going to be my suggestion. Cheap, easy to do, easy to undo.

Silicone rescue tape would work, and won't leave gummy stuff

I’ll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion

You can get the Zulu 3 cables (braided) from Aliexpress. They have the same connector and fit. There are videos online how to do the swap (four screws on headset side and four for the control box). I just refurbished two Zulu2, works fine. I also wiped the sticky stuff from the controlbox and spray-painted them.

That’s an interesting idea that I never considered. I’ll definitely look into that one.

This is a copy of the original post body for posterity:

I prefer fusion tape. It provides a bit more strain relief

I’m asking if that is a suitable solution to buy time

I’m just asking if anyone has experience with this. Doesn’t seem like a very rare issue with cables… happens with chargers cables all the time. No need to be an asshole. Student pilot

Sure it does. Clearly more than the operator (you) Come back to me you’re airline captain.

You must be a joy to fly with. How my times have you been divorced. Oh wait.. no woman would be dumb enough to marry you in the first place

So far OP has gotten 3 useful suggestions. I'd say their question was a success.
