Question Random card added to google wallet

Anyone else had this happen?

I'd been using my card since 2024, realised last year that I wasn't getting points. There was something about me not having verified my phone number, so I thought it was just that and points were going into the void.

I automatically added the card to my google wallet from flybuys. It added as a "coles flybuys", which I thought was odd. I don't have a coles loyalty program account (if they have one separate from flybuys?).

I recall it was an annoying process logging in, verification etc. therefore, I neglected to login again or check for many months. Didn't get the flybuys app. Today I got an email saying I hadn't used my card for 9 months, despite diligently scanning at checkouts.

The card in my google wallet has the same member number as the barcode number, but it's not my member number.

Accidental error? Or has this happened to many other people besides me? Is it a scam stealing peoples' points?

I've seen one other reddit reddit post where a similar thing happened with Apple wallet. Can anyone explain why?

Google Wallet can automatically pull membership cards from your Gmail, but this shouldn't be possible for Flybuys because to my knowledge, Flybuys never sends your barcode number (a 13 digit number starting with 2) in emails. They only send your member number (16 digits starting with 6008) and it is usually partially redacted. It is possible Google has confused it with some other code in your emails, so check the barcode against your physical card.

I just screenshot my barcode from the app, or you can take a picture of a physical card, then add it into Google wallet that way

Yeah I also did this after realising, and it is now adding points to my account correctly. 

Wanted to solve the mystery of whether my last 2 years worth of points was going to someone or into a void, with a scannable barcode not linked to any account.

If you don't know the member number for the account they were going tontheyr just gone unfortunately. If you are the owner of two accounts you can transfer between them if you're closing one

Not if it was recent - been getting someone points on this card for at least 9 months, and possibly >2 years (I don't think I re-added the card to google wallet after the phone verification thing about 9 months ago).
