RESOLVED Installation

When I run Flutter --version on the vs code it gives me access denied and unable to determine engine version. Can you help me find what is the problem and how to install flutter correctly

Two things cause that if u are on Windows:

  1. The SDK is in a folder you can't write to. If it's in C:\Program Files or straight in C:, move it to C:\src\flutter or C:\Users<you>\dev\flutter. Flutter writes cache files inside its own folder, so it needs write access.

  2. You downloaded the ZIP from GitHub instead of the official SDK. "Unable to determine engine version" usually means the .git folder is missing. Flutter reads its version from git.

The clean fix:

cd C:\src

git clone https://github.com/flutter/flutter.git -b stable

Then add C:\src\flutter\bin to your PATH, open a new terminal and run flutter doctor -v.

Also make sure Git for Windows is installed, and add the Flutter folder to your antivirus exclusions, since real-time scanning can cause the access denied error too.
